Resort parking passes being eliminated

Without a paper pass showing you're staying on property, how do we get free entrance/parking in the Parks?? They don't scan Magic Bands there and thank goodness as the lines are already long enough!

Sadly my friend they do scan MB for those without paper parking passes. We got one at BWV and BLT and when staying at the BCV we asked for one at the front desk and got it.

And what about parking at the resorts? What's to stop someone from parking who's not a guest at the hotel and taking the bus into the park? I've never seen them tow cars while they've had the paper parking pass, but sometimes the parking lot is PACKED! Especially BLT! You can go down the line and see a bunch of cars without parking pass...and FL plates :confused3

The FL plates maybe annual pass holders who go and support disney all year our parking is not free we pay that is not included in r passes also most of us just go for a few hrs and I no I go for the restaurants in the resorts and w a reservation my parking is included for a short time
So trust me we pay to park but also has a FL resident and a pass holder that we pay up to 1000.00 per person a yr for this we also get last and I mean last minute deals that r very cheap to stay at their resorts but hey Disney is only a hr drive away for us so it's nice to get away for the day and I'm glad disney offers us this
Disney Dorks here

(We pay for parking though)

I don't see any issues here. The paper pass was always unnecessary. First time arrival, visitor, or ADR - pull up to guard, show ID, explain why arriving, check you off a list, drive on in. Returning guests can pull up to the second gate to scan their band (room card previously) to avoid waiting in line for guard. Where the second gate is on the passenger side (not many) and you don't have a passenger then you need to wait in line for the guard. Parks have been set up to scan bands for parking for some time now.

Ugh. That will likely slow park entry to a crawl. For the entry gates to the parks, what are they going to do with the lanes where you pull up to the booth with the passenger side of the car next to the booth? Is somene going to be standing in the street all the time to check bands of the drivers? And if the scanner breaks down, which I have seen happen often not just rarely, you could easily get a a huge back-up while everyone awaits a repair.
I don't see where they say this is for park entry, I only only see that this is for resort entry, we have used it already for entry instead if swiping a room key, the guard usually is just there if you need them.

If I have "direct to room" Will my magic bands open the guard gate on first visit? Do I have to see guard the 1st time I arrive?

When we arrived at BLT a few weeks ago, went to the guard gate even though we did direct to room check in. He gave us a paper parking pass for the dashboard. After that we scanned our MBs when we returned.

I this thread is kind of humorous. First, I would think that as others have posted that if you need to use your magivc band to enter the park and there is no passenger you would either take the band off to hand to the guard or pull up to the driver side. Same as you would do with a paper pass or your AP, if you can't adapt to this new way of doing things there are bigger problems.

And the thorugh that the guards are logging in cars or watching where they park is sort of absurd. They aren't wasting that kind of man power and it would be an administrative nightmare. The guard sitting in the booth is usually taking a break and real time monitoring cameras for vandals, thiefs, etc. Yes, there are cameras's at the resort entrances, but not for this purpose and the video is only reviewed for serious problems, not to try to find out when you parked the car for dinner. Rarely do they tow vehicles adn what you might see more likely to hapne is a lots in those high demand lots being divided to a resort guest area that needs the magic band and a visitor lot where they could monitor it the same as they do on the streets where a time limit is imposed (marking tires, even a non paying meter for when you parked etc). But even that is not very likely.

Towing cars is not good for Disney in general. It only takes towing the wrong car once to create a customer service nightmare, not to mention fees associated with it that Disney would have to spend and the subsequetn complaints about how the guest couldn't go to a park because their car was wrongly towed. They do not want the image stuck in peoples minds that when you come to Dinsey you might get your car towed for parking in the wrong place or taking extra time to eat a meal, etc.

And if the system goes down at the entrance gate, it is a simple solution, they will take your word for it. Think about it, if 90% of the time they are scanning everyones magic bands to get parking....the time it goes down you won't have a ton of guests showing up saying they get free parking that don't. So they will waive you through.....and as for lines. Cash paying guests take a lot longer than scanning a magic band. You have to take their money, give them change, most of them don't know where they are going or have a bunch of other questions that AP holders generally don't.

I agree, and now parking is included for all passes not just annual passes, even the Epcot after four gets free parking. I think Disney will pass everyone through with magic bands if scanners are out of order. I would expect Disney to move cash lines to one side, and have a sunpass like express area like the turnpike has. The only people paying at the theme parks for parking would be off property guests without passes.

I am not sure whether most who have posted recently realize that this is an old thread from 7 months ago that got resurrected. The original poster stated back in March that Disney was about to eliminate paper parking passes starting with YC/BC. Be aware that now 7 months later, paper parking passes have not been eliminated and are still being used.

Our magic band did open the gate at BCV this past Thursday when we first arrived at the resort. We did online check in and our room number was texted to us. We tried the returning guest gate to see if it would work and it did open right up. Now, we also happened to be staying at BCV the weekend before as well. We tend to go several weekends throughout F&W and stay at BCV so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.

Another "green" initiative expands the versatility of Walt Disney World'sMagicBand technology while eliminating paper waste at resort hotels.

Disney is poised to eliminate parking passes distributed to resort guests at its resort hotels and Disney Vacation Club timeshares. Cast Members will instead scan guest MagicBands (or RFID-equipped Key To The World cards) upon entry at resort hotel and theme park gates to confirm parking privileges.

The first resort to adopt the new procedures is Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resort which includes Disney's Beach Club Villas.

This project coincides with the debut of Disney's Direct-to-Room arrival procedure, allowing guests to skip visits to the resort front desk if they have received their MagicBands and completed the online check-in process.

Elimination of the paper parking passes will expand to other resorts in the coming weeks.

In August, we entered the parking lot using our MagicBands. We ended up needing the printed pass for OKW security.

It is probably worth getting the paper pass anyway in case your Magic Band does not work at the park parking lot entrance.

Note that, if something goes wrong at the toll plaza, the attendant still has to pass you onward to reach the U-turn exit.

The paper pass is not supposed to make a difference at a different resort. Both on site guests and day guests are subject to the same restrictions and, when available, the same free parking at that other resort.

Should there be a MB malfunciton at the toll plaza, they are not going to interview guests at length but rather they will pass the guests on unless they immediately see something that suggests that the guest should not be passed on.

Maybe they will actually enforce parking restrictions. Only onsite guest and confirmed dining reservations. This could go either way. As someone who stays at BWV every October, I know how horrible the parking lots can get. It's only as good as the guards who enforce the rules.

What about those of us who go to the resorts for pool hopping or to enjoy the food court/QS? No confirmed dining ressie there!

No food courts at bwv. I agree though. I think that you should be allowed to park in valet for free once the place you eat at validated it like ESPN or big river grill who don't take reservations. Last year we tried to eat at beaches and cream as a walk in at the counter and the guard told us we could not park there unless we used valet or parked at Epcot and walked. We went to paneras instead. We are at bwv right now and they have 2 guard stops. Resort guest and confirmed dining only. Of course there is construction going on and parking is hard as one lot is almost shut down because of equipment. The guards are turning folks away every time we come through the gate.

They were doing this last week, but we also were given the passes too.

With the resorts, it always baffles me how the guards only ask to see an ID. Like what are they looking for? My ID doesn't say if I am up to no good or not. I joke with my husband that I should put a sticker over my face next time we go through a resort gate.
Exactly. We were Florida residents, and used to book weekend stays at the all stars all the time when they would run those $49 rates. We had Florida drivers licenses, so by simply looking at it, how did they know we were actually checking in, or just parking and hopping on a bus to avoid paying for parking:confused3

They have a list of people checking in each day.

They probably don't. But I think the number of people who would drive to the All Star Resorts to avoid paying for parking is very small and it's not worth the effort to police - at least for now.

There is a guard booth they need to go through in order to get to the BLT parking area, so even if they forgot to put the parking pass on the dash, the guard had to determine they were allowed to be in that lot.

What do you think that guy who's sitting in the booth is doing? They have cameras and can record your license plate and watch you park and walk away. I'm sure they're taking notes and will take action when necessary.

These statements are naive. We have stayed at BLT many times and have watched people pull in and immediate walk to the parks. I have even witnessed employees coming in their gate and making their way up near the front spots and park.

The reality is, the "guard" at the gate really doesn't do much. There are numerous excuses so one can use to get access and once you are in, you park and there is really nothing they do. I used to think the parking passes would mean something, but they don't.

As far as BLT parking goes, it really clears out overnight as all the park goers go home. When you wake up in the morning the lot will have less than half the cars that were in it the night before at 10:00pm.

They never look at a list, just glance at it and hand it back

I talked to them about why they bother doin this and they have a camera in the right place that captures your id as they look at it. So that with your car on camera can help them if a problem arises where they need to review camera footage.
