Unless it has changed, there is no charge for self parking (as long as you are a guest of the hotel). There is a charge for valet service and I believe that's $6 a day.
While self-park is indeed free, at some resorts it can lead to a long walk. At the GF, for example, the self-park is across the street and it can be quite a hike from there to your room. After a long day of pounding the Disney pavement, you may decide that the $6 is a small price to pay to save your aching, tired feet!
I'd recommend checking out the distance first. As for me -- I use the valet all the time. Not that I'm lazy or anything ( ), but it's just easier to do. (Hey, I do get plenty of exercise hiking through the parks all day!)
Thanks we are not too worried about the distance since we plan on using WDW transportation for the most part. We found a rental for the week that is only $20 more than the total of a round trip town car ride would be. We will probably leave the car parked for the most part. We just couldn't pass the deal up. We have stayed at the Disneyland resorts in CA and they charge a resort fee even for self parking.
Eeyore1954 is correct re the distance. check it out first
the last time we stayed at the CBR and had the luxury of being able to park right in frt of our room

There is no resort parking fee like Disneyland.
The self-parking at these 2 resorts has to be about the best as far as location is concerned. You will have the shortest walk to the hotel than the other deluxe resorts.
We usually drive to the parks or to another hotel when we go since we get impatient with the resort transportation. You do not have to pay to park at the parks with your parking pass.
Driving to Downtown Disney is much better than taking the transportation.
Have a great trip.
