Resort options for DFTW

DW and I are planning our 10 year vow renewal ceremony. We have looked at the information for the DFTW and it states specific resorts that you have to stay at in order to participate. We are DVC members and the DVC resort that we are planning to use is not on that list. Has anyone ever used another resort for their DFTW?

Welcome to the Dis, DizneyFan365! And congratulations on your upcoming vow renewal.

I am a DVC member and I renewed my vows in WDW at the end of 2004. Disney did a wonderful job with everything and I couldn't have been more pleased. I hope your vow renewal turns out just as magical as mine did.

Before I booked my VR (vow renewal), I booked five resort rooms at the BoardWalk Villas (BWV) for my family's use during the week of my VR. When I booked my VR, I initially booked the "intimate" category. I informed FTW (Fairy Tale Weddings) of my BWV resort reservations and they allowed me to "add on" an intimate VR. But once I began moving along in my VR planning, I switched into the "custom" category (I shared details of my planning in a trip report here on the Dis: click here).

When I found myself in the “custom” category, I turned over a list of not only all the DVC reservations that I had made but also the reservations (both DVC and otherwise) that the rest of my guests had made. I had to do this in order to satisfy the “room block” requirements for a custom FTW wedding or vow renewal. It was very easy for me to meet the FTW requirement since many of my guests were staying in WDW for a week or longer.

Now, having said all this, I do not know what the requirements are now. You will need to discuss this with your FTW Sales Manager. They’ll be able to answer your questions.

By the way, I’m not sure what DVC resort is not on the FTW list. Please share with us the resort that you want to stay in. As long as it is located in WDW, I can’t see Disney not allowing its use for a FTW.

The only resorts that wouldn't count would be Shades of Green and the Swan and Dolphin. All the other WDW resorts would count towards your room block. You could stay at any of the DVC resorts without a problem.

As hmgolden said...all Disney owned and operated properties are "okay" for your resort, you are required to stay a minimum of 4 nights.

Disney has "changed" it's policy for intimates as of 2006...all intimate weddings/vow renewals are what used to be known as "add-on".

Basically, that means you can book your reservations yourself, and you provide your ressie number to your DFTW Sales manager...and everything is good!

Thanks for all of the responses. We will have 12 adults. We want to stay at the Old Key West resort. We want to book two 3 bdrm villas for 5 nights. Our renewal isn't for another 4.5 years, but we are trying know the path before we take it.

DizneyFan365, since your vow renewal is so far out, remember that everything (and I do mean everything) is subject to change without prior notice.

However, if history repeats itself, OKW should be okay for your room block. I stayed in OKW twice during my vow renewal vacation (I did a lot of resort-hopping during that two-week period).

Have fun gathering info. I bet you'll gather quite a bit before your vow renewal arrives, and that is a good thing -- the more info you have, the better chance you have of creating the vow renewal of your dreams.
