Has anyone ever done a resort only trip? Was it fun? Were you sad not going to the parks? My wife (6 months pregnant) and I are considering it to relax. Thoughts?

I did it a few years ago, and it was still one of my favorite trips to date.

I stayed at POR for eight days and toured every one of the resorts. I would come back to the DTD bus hub from a resort each night; walk through the shops, stop at RFC for a drink or two and then leisurely take the water taxi back to my resort.

Definitely give it a try.

Love Love Love Resort Only trips ! We did this when I was 8 weeks pregnant , and we went to the GF. Our thought was , to splurge prior the the little one's arrival.

We had special dinners and layed by the pool , relaxed, slept in. I think we went into MK once , just cause we were AP holders , but it was not an extensive park tour or anything. We also really enjoyed shopping and picking out some special gifts for the baby.

Congrats to you both , it's such an amazing time. No matter where you stay , it's a memory making trip.

I don't think I could do it! If we have 7 days we take one as a down day to hang out by the pool then that evening go to a park for dinner and maybe a few rides. We take breaks at the resort most days but I couldn't imagine NOT going to the parks.. That's just me tho..

That actually sounds like a lot of fun saying that with a newborn sleeping on my shoulder! If she's feeling well you guys could enjoy all the dining options available and she won't have to feel guilty about eating a single morsel or dessert at every meal :)

We did a few years back (w/o our DDs for 6 days), we stayed at the Beach Club Villas, we just love the pool. We could walk over to the Boardwalk in the evening to hang out. We'd get ice cream cones from Beaches & cream and watch the EPCOT fireworks. During the day we'd hit Downtown Disney or just take the car & go exploring. It really was a a lot of fun & very relaxing. ::yes::

We have done this, and it does work. We've even rented a car through Alamo, located on Disney property, for day trips to beautiful Anna Maria Island & Siesta Key, although I would be fine with resort hopping, and shopping.:)

We're doing it in February for the princess half. I'm excited because I think skipping the parks will give us a chance to see some of the other great stuff the World has to offer. We usually get too caught up in the parks to try any of that good stuff.

We have done it many times and really enjoy it. That said, it's not the same as a "Disney Trip" - I admittedly miss the parks but it is great for relaxing... the spas, fine dining, etc. I think that sounds like a great pre-baby trip.

I will admit: we've done a "resort only" trip where we wound up going to the parks anyways. One tip: don't book BLT with an MK view, it makes you wanna go! ;)

I did a girls' weekend with my sisters for the Princess Half this past February and we didn't do any parks. We were just there for a short time and it was fine to miss them for just a couple of days, but I don't think I could have done any longer. :) As it was, I really wanted to go watch Wishes from the Poly beach and didn't get to, and felt like I did miss out a bit. We had a great time eating and shopping at DTD, we did some resort touring, played mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens, walked around the Boardwalk and hung out at the resort. It was nice to have down-time with my sisters, though, and one of them wouldn't have cared about going into the parks so it worked out for the best.

We are going to give a resort only visit a try for two days in August after our cruise. We usually stay in Value or Mods but this time we are going to splurge on AKL. I figure we will actually spend enough time at the resort to make the price worthwhile. Usually we spend all of our time in the parks unless we are sleeping. We are also going to do some things we have always wanted to try but we didn't have time for: archery experience at Fort Wilderness, minigolf, Electric Water Pageant. I think it is going to be a lot of fun.

If I had the time and money to justify a trip to WDW solely for resorts, I would do it. But to me, it seems like a waste to not go to parks while we're there since we only make a trip every other year or so.

We did spend one night at POR without doing any parks after a cruise (not Disney). We wanted one night post-cruise so we could relax for one more day, and opted for a Disney resort so we could utilize ME (our cruise transfer had us going back to the airport where we were able to pick up ME). This worked well, but it was hard not going to a park! We spent most of the day by the pool and DTD, and also checked out the Boardwalk area but found it boring during the day. I don't mind taking down days while on a trip but would be bored after a day or two of just resorts IMO.

DH and I did a long weekend in January during the marathon. It was beautiful weather in the low 80's:) We stayed at the Swan in a fantastic room. Spent some time by the pool, The Boardwalk, went to DTD 2x but I really wanted to go to the parks the entire time. We had fun and it was relaxing but I will never do a resort only trip again. I just wanted to walk into Epcot and enjoy the WS

If I were to do a resort only trip it would have to be AKL. We stayed there twice. 1st time just the 2 of us and did not leave the resort on quite a few days. I say it is a vacation within a vacation. That's if you are interested in African wildlife. If not, then I would suggest Beach Club. Friends of ours (no children) stay there all the time. They say the pool is awesome and there are great food choices all around like a walk to the boardwalk and such. If you would go that route I would consider getting a park pass for at least EPCOT to do the countries. Shopping, strolling, restaurants are all great at the countries.:thumbsup2
Otherwise, Disney resorts are somewhat more expensive than most resorts outside of WDW. Perhaps there's somewhere in your vicinity, even in a connecting state that you may want to get away and relax. We once stayed in Rhode Island at a beautiful place called Castle Hill Inn. Was a private luxury cottage with fireplace, sunken tub, deck overlooking the ocean, just overall beautiful, clean comfortable with a private beach and even included a great breakfast at the main bldg bed n breakfast. It was less per night than the POLY GV! I really think it would be too hard to do Disney without a few hours here and there in the parks. Check all your options...

We like to spend a lot of time at the resort. We are not a park "commando" type family at all. However, we would have trouble being that close and not entering a park even once to have at TS meal or walk around for a bit. You can try your resort only visit and if you get the urge to go to a park, buy a ticket when you get to WDW. There are always options.:goodvibes:thumbsup2
