Hubby and I have been playing with our points :-) One option we like is finding a great deal on airfare (from chicago) and hitting WDW for long weekends (trying to squeeze in as many DVC trips per year as posible! LOL)

Here's the kicker..... we wouldnt go to the parks.... just hang at our home away from home.

Do any of you go just to kick it.... What non-park activities does your family like? Our girls are almost 3 and 15 months old...... We love the idea of spending time with them at the pools (maybe pool hopping) for 4 days.... What else?

Thanks!

at VWL walk over to FW - do the petting zoo and if open River Country. take the hotel tours. do some of the activies on the weekly list if interested.

at OKW - take the boat to DD, check the schedule of activies and see if there is anything to do. relax on the porch and watch the wildlife - check all the resorts for sales in the resort store. at night go over to PI

at BWV - slept late - go over to the BC for breakfast, then look around the stores (both BC and YC) - see if SALB is busy if not go swimming - then later when the BW opens up - see if anything is interesting going on there.

We did this at the WLV last June. Had just bought our OKW resale, and were itching to go home, but we had just been six months before, and couldn't really afford to pay for tickets again, and since we had a fifteen-month old, it was an easy decision to just chill at the resort. My mom had an extra day on a pass she gave us, so we did buy one day at MK, but the other days(I think we were there for 5 days) we did non-park things. Two different days we got up late, went to a late character breakfast seating(calling when we got up to get ressies-once was Chef Mickey's, once was 1900 Park Fare, both were great-Goofy spent 10-15 minutes solely with our little one at Chef Mickey's) after breakfast we would explore the resorts, ride the monorail, etc. then head back to the hotel for a nap, then swim and at night go to eat somewhere different or to Downtown Disney.

It was great-we really enjoyed it.

this past trip we took a taxi ($15 each way) to celebration, disneys own little city. we had lunch and went to the shops. it was a great relaxing day. i highly recommend it.

How about a long weekend at Vero Beach? Its just an 1.5 Hour drive from Orlando Int'l Airport, we did this last June for a long weekend, got the good deal on airfare to MCO, rented a cheap little Dodge Neon for $25 per day and chilled out on the beach all weekend. There is so much for the little ones to do, a great "pirate ship" pool area exclusively for little ones (My 4 year old loved it!!), mini golf, scheduled kids activities; and.... no pressure to go to the parks!! It was truly a Disney experience in the most relaxing way!! Top notch resort too, we have stayed in the Inn room with a beautiful ocean view and a studio in the one of the villas, both super nice. Have fun whatever you decide!!

I did this at WLV Labor Day. In addition to FW you can go to all the hotels around the lagoon. I think WLV and OKW are the best "kick back" resorts. On the other hand with a 15 month old you might prefer BWV with its ease of accomodating strollers plus you can really blast around the lake on rental bikes & make sand pies at stormalongbay...of course you can play in the sand at WLV as well...

I love the Celebration idea! I'll have to try it sometime...but at $30 I think I would run over to Downtown Disney first and pick up a rental car so I could go anywhere...remember rentals in florida are dirt cheap.

This last trip I also did Disney Quest...your kids are too young to really enjoy it but it is a quick fix, half the price alternative for going into the parks.

All our trips are "short" -- three or four days. We stayed at OKW last March for three days and never went to the parks. Instead, we saw a spring training Braves game, and ate a couple fine meals at the restaurants at Downtown Disney. It was fun!

And, we did another short three-day trip to HH for our anniversary, and had "A Private Affair" dinner while we were there to celebrate.

And, our favorite of all, we spent four days over New Year's at Vero Beach. We took our teenage granddaughter with us on that trip and we all had a ball relaxing and enjoying the activities at the resort.

Next is a cruise! :bounce:
