Last year when we went it was the first time online resort check in was offered (at least that I know of). I don't remember if I did a dummy run or if I was told this, but I was under the impression that you had no option but to enter a credit card no., under explanation that this could be used to add the charging feature to your KTTW card. I don't want to add charging to mine, but I thought I would give online check in a try. Anyone used this feature recently who could confirm the story?
Thanks

I used it in January and didn't have to give any card details (which I didn't). I think maybe you only have to if you booked room only through disney usa as they take full payment at check in.

Thanks. I know I can just try at the time, but for some reason I dont like the idea of getting halfway and then aborting the process in case it messes things up.

We stayed at ASMovies last December, booked through Disney USA and did the online check in. We didn't have charging priviledges on our cards because I didn't want it.

Actual check in was very quick and we got the room i'd requested - ground floor toy story section.

I have heard such good reviews about the online check in service. Granted, we will only get to our resort around 8 pm so there are unlikely to be lengthy queues there at that time, but there's nothing to lose and maybe a little time gain as they have your pack ready for you.

I think it was the DIS podcast where one of the team had tried it and said it was a record breaking smooth, quick and easy procedure.

Oh, one more question, what kind of requests can you make? I have a building request on my reservation which would need to be confirmed with online check in, I guess, but I also want to request 2nd/3rd floor. Can you make two requests?

I've not done the OLCI I'm afraid, so can't help there.

But..

You can in theory make as many requests as you want, but the room allocators have so much work to do that I think you have more hope of getting what you prefer if you keep it simple.

For example, on our upcoming trip my parents and ourselvevs (and possibly others) are at AKL. Having an Arusha view is the thing I would most like, so that's what I've requested, as nice as it'd be to be near by them, or near the pool elevators I don't want to risk my Arusha chances incase they try to fulfill the other requests.

Maybe state 1 or 2 buildings you like, then add "high floor if possible" or something, so nothing is too precise.

The olci didn't give a space for requests so I would fax any requests to the resort a few days before. If look on the main resort board thread you should find a fax address on the resort sticky info thread. I think all the resorts have one, if not I am sure someone on there knows the address.

I can't remember if there was a bit to put preferences on the online check in or not. I know I requested the room preference on the telephone shortly after booking our trip.

I was a bit reluctant to do online as I had preferences and was worried I wouldn't get them but you still checked in with a person on the desk so if everything wasn't to your liking then you could just say so.

All online check in meant was they had the paperwork ready and you went in a separate queue. We checked in in the am and there were no queues. oh and the room was ready - but maybe nothing to do with online check in.

I'll definitely do it again this trip.

Maybe I should just do what I knew to do with the building request and ring Disney UK and put a higher floor request on my reservation. Can I do this if I have paid off the holiday or is it too late? I don't have any other requests - just a building which I wanted fairly near the pool and kids playground for DD, and don't want to be on the ground floor.

Then with online check in I can just put in whatever they need and leave it at that. I'm not going to be upset if they can't honour the building. Disappointed, maybe, but it won't impact our trip. I just don't like being ground floor.

We booked direct with Disney US and used Online Check-In and also checked no to providing a credit card. However, I had paid my balance in full in advance.

We got to the resort, were literally handed our Welcome Pack, told our room number, told how to get there on the map and off we went! I'd say we were done with Check-In in about 5 minutes, probably less.

The Online Check-In requests are very basic. If I remember rightly one was Ground Floor request or Disabled access request. There was only 4 options and none of them fit my bill. I phoned up the day before Online Check-In was available to make my request and we got it :thumbsup2

We used online check in last October when we stayed at OKW. We did put a card on but didnt charge anything to it.

Same as the previous post, we got to the resort, went to the desk and I think we were at guest services all of 5 minutes and then on our way - a fantastic service. All our paperwork was there ready and waiting for us to arrive.

The only room requests you can make when using OLCI is some little radial dial options for 'near bus stop' and 'ground floor' - might have been disabled access too but don't remember, but deffo other 2. Any other requests you'll need to call them in manually.

I love OLCI, it's been very very smooth any time we've used it.

Thanks everyone. I will give it a go. Requests are never guaranteed anyway, so I will add it to my ressie. I picked a resort where I don't have any places I really don't want to be and a think an upper floor is pretty easy to accommodate.

Does online check-in work if you have booked a package holiday through virgin? if so how do you do it?

Did you get your US reservation no. from VH for your ADRs? If not, you need to email or phone VH and ask for it as you will need this.

You can either do it on the Disney.com website under My Reservation or you can go to www.mydisneyreservation.com and do it there.

So the answer is yes, anyone who has their US ressie no can do online check in from 10 days before arrival.

Yes I have the number given to book ADRs, thanks for your help will give it ago in September :)

And of course you will let me know how it goes, since I go in October ;)
