I just got my weekly newsletter from Passporter and it said the cost of the resort refillable mugs is going from $11.99 to $12.49. It didn't say when though. Does anyone know if this has already taken effect?

Can you use the mug anywhere on site or just at your hotel? Can you get milk for the mugs? Are ther covers on the mugs?

Thanks, Jen

With the new Year Of A Million Dream mugs which are being sold at all the Resorts expect the Contemporary and Corondao Springs, you can use them at the Resort you stay at and the other Resort counter service locations.

I am sorry to tell you milk is one drink you can not fill up in the mug, because that needs to be purchased separately. The items you can fill up with no problems is Soda, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Tea (after poring the hot water into you're mug) and if you're Resort offers it the other item you can get is Frozen Coke. I think the only Resort to offer Frozen Coke is Pop Century, now that the Food & Fun Center at the Contemporary is now closed. However hopefully when they open up Chef Mickey's Express they will once again have it there.

For us the value of these mugs was marginal at best. So even such a small increase as this one just makes it a worse deal.

The problem with the mugs is that they really don't hold that much. By the time you get back to your room, its already half empty. And every time you want to refill, you have to go to the resort's food location, which might not be that close to your room. Further, if you are headed for a park you now have the mug to carry around all day.

For us, we just say no.

I think that depends on how many time you can refill it and how many drinks you have per mug. If you avg 2 drinks per day for 5 days that would be 10 drinks at 1.99 each. Some guests have 2 drinks per meals (lunch/dinner).

$19.99 for 10 drinks - 2 drinks per day
$39.80 for 20 drinks - 4 drinks per day

Either way it pays for itself in no time.

Actually, my point was that because of the impracticality of refilling it frequently, we would never get to the point where it would pay for itself.

This would probably be a factor for us as well. We are not ones to spend that much time at the resort.

Although, this trip we plan on eating breakfast at the resort 6 out of 7 mornings.

We may give it a whirl.

no flames please;

we have 9 people traveling in our group-- we usually buy 4 mugs and share them (since 6 of the "people" are kids)... it is nice when heading to breakfast to have a quick drink and at thanksgiving/christmas time on the way back in we usually stop for a quick mug of hot choc or grab a pop and take back to the room (at the contemporary the slushes were the best- 2yrs ago)... with 4 mugs it gives everyone a little pick me up drink, but not a lot... but there is no way we would buy 1 for each person/child... for jsut my family of 4 (2 adults 2kids)we buy 2 mugs... and my sister has 4 children plus herself and she buys 2--

I do feel it is worth it... even though we use it just twice a day...at 8days it is worth it... make it $1.56 each day/mug and with two uses that is about 78cents a fill...

and we don't stand there and refill etc... or over use it since 2 people are sharing... we just fill up and head to the room and everyone gets a drink.. it may not be the way the mugs were intended, but we also do not abuse it and stand there and refill, refill, refill, we use the mug for 1 person and share it! But we do that with drinks at the park too... I personally cannot drink a 20oz pop at 10:30am before it gets warm... I just need a couple of sips as do the rest of my family! lol!

so needless to say we will be buying 4 mugs mid dec and enjoying them, price increase or not it is worth it!:santa:

No flames from me because there are no rules saying you can not share mugs while at WDW.

I was a little confused on the "policies" of the resort mugs, so I have done some quick looking around, and ultimately contacted the resort directly to confirm.

Another website states the policy as:

refillable mug policy still states that the mug is only good for your length of stay

So I called the resort I am going to in December and spoke to GS, that person told me that the policy does not state anywhere that they cannot be shared, nor does it state 1 mug per person. He kind of giggle of course at my question until I told him why- that there was so much confusion on a board I go on and I wanted to clarify... I also said I felt good getting the information first hand! To which he giggled back and stated we are pretty easy to get along with here!

I think it is important to have a place for people to get good useful information. Sometimes it may be that people post what they have been told or informed, even though it may not be correct, but it is also helpful when that happens that other can clarify and have that opportunity. It is a learn experience for all of us... I think... I have been to Disney 29 times and I literally learn something new each time I visit and from these boards! They are wonderful!

Amen to that. I've read entirely too much stuff, threads, info on these mugs. People will do what they want but when CM's tell you something different who's to believe? We adhere to what Disney states and I'm not concerned with other guests on what they are filling or doing. When we purchased our mugs this past September, nowhere was it written on the mug, go for this stay only, nor a sign. I've seen people filling generic home mugs with no problems and the posted CM thats there to clean and replenish just kept on with her duties. Disney just doesn't care.

I am not sure I why I never thought to just call the resort itself and get the info right from them... but I am glad a did... now I really do know!

I do know what you mean about Cm's saying conflicting info; one year we bought mugs and were told they by the CM that they were good for life! I knew that was to good to be true, but that is a Disney employee who stated it... I to have never seen the actual sign myself, I guess I have never paid attention, partial because I knew or thought I wasn't doing anything that wrong, and as it turns out we weren't! So good to know info-- if you ask me!

The mugs state good for the length of your stay but I have seen many a person use older mugs before. To each his own.

However, as has been posted here in the past, the mugs are only good for the stay that you purchased them. Read the posted signs or read it right on the mugs.

As for the generic/non-Disney mugs, .... Would you bring a cup from home and fill it up at McDonald's? Why would anyone think it would be okay at Disney???:sad2:

When checking out in August, my DH said we should throw our mug away as it's only good for the stay. I said I wanted to keep it as a souvenir.

The man from luggage services overheard us and told us to keep it as it can be used whenever you come again.

I showed the CM on the mug where it was printed good only for length of stay, he looked, read it aloud, then stated "I never knew that, I tell everyone to bring them back."

lol-- I was once told by a CM (in food court) that they were good for life to! I think that is a big part of the policy that is hard, no one seems to really know... and I have actually never seen it in print before... although I am going to look inthe food court and on the mugs this time... I can tell you I have myPOFQ, CBR and CR in front of me and NONE have the policy printed on them... and they are from last year and few years prior! lol! And I do keep them as true keepsakes, and use them nearly ever day at home! I love those mugs-- they bring back such memories and mark the places we have stayed!

I am personally not taking advantage of the mugs, I use them the same way I do any drink I buy there (in a mug or not) I share it with my kids! :goodvibes

one year we bought mugs and were told they by the CM that they were good for life!

We were told the exact same thing!!!
It was during our October 2000 stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I specifically remember that we were told the Mugs were good for life, because right when we bought 2 Mugs, my husband and I discussed it in detail:
1) What a Great Deal, we said!
2) How will we ever REMEMBER to bring the Mugs with us on all our future trips?
3) Every time DH used the Mug at home to travel with, I would warn him that he better not lose it!!

We still have the Wilderness Mugs from 2000, but in years to follow I kept reading that they were only for the length of your current stay, so we never brought them again. I just figured "Oh well, they changed the program". Guess I missed the small print that must have read "we reserve the right to change the refillable mug program at any time, without notice". :)

Problem is....you can ask 5 different people, and you will get 4 different answers. CM's are notorius for telling the guest what the guest wants to hear.

Back in '99, we bought 3 mugs at DxL...good forever at DxL. Of course, shortly thereafter, the name changed to POR!! But, still good forever. Did I bring them back? Nope. Way too much space wasted for that.
But, I have about 14 of those darn mugs...from POP, ASMusic, POR, DxL, BW, BC, Polyenesian. At every single register, from '01 forward, there was signage stating that the mugs were to be used for that particular stay only, at that particular resort only. And, on about 2/3 of my mugs, there is written statements to that effect. There is wording to that effect on my POR, POP, BW, BC and ASMusic mugs stating good for length of stay, at that resort only. It's right underneath the handle.
So..now they have a more generic design which is wonderful for those doing a split stay. They only have to buy one mug in order to be 'legal'. Now, can they bring them back again? I suppose so. I find the mugs are good at certain resorts, not so good at others. If there is a food court, then fine. But, stay at BW and it's not so easy to get refills.
As for the argument that the mugs save money....most soda is about $1.99. You get a really large amount of soda for that $1.99. Not so if you are using a mug. They don't hold nearly as much as it looks like they would. I really don't think that Disney is giving us anything for free here. I used to, but not anymore. I don't buy the mugs anymore. But then, I don't need anymore to just have sitting on my shelf either.

DH and I loved the refillable mugs last year at CSR. Yes, they are a little small, and on a short trip, it might not be worth it, but I think in most cases they are. Also, like many other posters, DH and I use them at home...

We are going for 8 days this time and with the new pricing, it will come out to be $1.56/day. We will probably use them 2-3 times a day, in the morning (with probably 2 full ups), in the evening (again, probably 2 fill ups), and whenever we go back to the resort for a break during the day. Much better deal than buying a new soda each time.
