Resort Mugs...Kinda Pointless?

What it comes down to is how much time you spend at the resort, how much soda you drink and how far your room is from the drink stations. If you use it 6 times during your stay, you've broken even on the cost. I just threw away 5 mugs. I don't consider it a souvenir, I consider it a mug to drink from while I am on vacation.

I agree with pp, the mug is more of a convenience to me than a souvenir. Every few years we would donate a bunch to goodwill just to free up some space in the kitchen for storage. We'r at the point now where we don't even bring them home with us (unless a new mug comes out that we really love).

I find the mug good value. A hot drink in the morning while everyone is getting ready, another during breakfast plus a drink or two in the evening (great for mixers to go with the booze we keep in our room!) Plus we can refill as we like during our off park day, which usually we have at least 1 of.

Our trips are usually more than 10 days and we spend time at the pool. We end up saving money with the mugs fairly quickly.

Does anyone have a picture of the mugs for this year? What colors are they? My sister is a type 1 diabetic so they're worth it or us so she always has a soda to spike up her sugar really quick if it's low.

Refillable mugs USED to be useful...but the autofill feature is a joke. WDW gets their soda from Coke for free...and they get to tell me how fast I'm allowed to drink my beverage or how high I'm allowed to fill my no-ice cup? If I'm paying for my length of stay mug, there should be no wait time...ever. There is no other place in the world I've ever been to that has a beverage fountain that tells me how much I'm allowed to drink...

For the price of a refillable mug $17ish ... We can get 3 cases of pop for our room, and bring those to the parks with us. Thats generally the route we go. But if you are on the meal plan, well, I guess its alright.

What I've been told is that there's like a minute or 2 between refills ( on the length of stay mug ) Isn't this to be the case... ?If so How much can that change from the non stop refills from the old scheme... Just wondering...

That's if you can get them to work to begin with! We had so many problems with the sensor not working...and I saw many others with the same issue at POR, too.

The old fountains were a regular fountain dispenser, no limits and no restrictions.

I use to get them but since I found out how incredibly bad soda is I cut it out and just drink water - maybe I could get it and load up on seltzer water hmmmm

We had the same issues the first time we used these mugs. You had to go search out a CM, who had to then call in the manager...it was such a waste of time and our food was getting cold. They seriously need to go back to the old system. I'm all for refillable mugs, but the censors have to go.

Put me in the "mugs are not worth it" category. After breakfast in the food court, we like to head straight for the buses and I don't want to carry around that mug all day. There is no way I am walking back to my room to put my mug away and then walking to a bus stop. We don't take mid-afternoon breaks or have "resort days". After coming home from the park, I don't want to stop to refill my mug. I want to get back to my room and crash! I do have 3 mugs from previous trips (free dining) and I do use them bc I brew my own coffee every morning and take it with me. But $17 is an expensive travel mug! I'll pass. I agree with a PP that an in-park refillable mug would be much better.

Not worth it to me. We will have water, soda, beer, OJ, and wine along with other groceries delivered to our room at the start of our stay--much easier and cheaper to just pour our own than to buy a mug and have to wander over to a filling station. I suppose if we ate at the hotel CS it would make more sense, but we usually cook breakfast in our room and save eating out for while we are more out and about.

If I was staying DVC, I wouldn't bother with them, either. The resort fridges don't hold much, so keeping water, soda, beer, OJ AND wine all cold at the same time is impossible.

At Universal the Freestyle machines make you wait 10 minutes between drinks but at least it is a bigger cup. What is a pain is when the syrup is out and you end up with carbonated water and have to wait for the next refill. Disney is quite stingy on the number and location of refill stations.

Why would someone part with it after their trip is done??? :confused3

<-- This girl did! I'd bought two for our May 2014 10-day trip. At the end of the trip, I figured I really do not need any more clutter in my kitchen cupboards, so I left them behind. My mom brought hers back, and I'll sometimes get a kick out of drinking from one when I visit my parents, but I wouldn't use it at home, and don't regret leaving it behind. Again, this is very personal, I don't use travel mugs, I only drink coffee around 10AM at work, and it would be cold by then.

There still are no limits.... You just can't stand by the fountain & drink it down & refill & drink it down...Etc. etc. No ?
