Resort Mugs...Kinda Pointless?

We barely use ours. We take them free with the dining plan. I won't buy one though. We don't do resort meals very often. We are not fast food/quick service people for the most part. We sometimes (maybe 1-2 times per trip) eat in the club level lounge for breakfast or have a park/resort TS breakfast. Dinner is usuall another TS. We skip lunch most days. When we have done resort breakfasts I don't bring my cup. I don't want to carry it all day in the park or run it back to the room. Plus if I want a water or soda I'll just buy one. The cups (We did it at home) hold very little beverage even without ice. So with ice it's even less.

For us we would never purchase it, we don't drink a lot of soda and are hardly at the resort, but if you are getting it free with DDP then I will go out of my way on our way back to our room likely as I understand it can do hot choc (is this right?)

I have no defense for them as a good perk. They are never handy if we are leaving the food court and hoping a bus to a park I don't want to carry them all day. If we get off the bus and wan't to fill it on the way back to the room we can't because they are in the room. When I do use the (ie on the dinning plan and get a bottled drink to save for later, then it is a perk). They are an OK size for hot beverages but too small for a coke on a hot day. I think they should be bigger like the ones at Universal Studios or refillable in the park (then they would be worth it to me).

I don't consider them much of a perk and I doubt I would purchase one on it's own if I weren't getting the dining plan. But since I do get the plan, I do use the mug a bit. We fill them in the morning on our way to the parks to drink on our drive and then just leave them in the car and fill them up again on our way to our room. So usually 2 refills a day, sometimes 3. Over 10 days it would pay for itself, but still not a big enough perk to buy it outright. We don't spend a ton of time at our resort, although if you did that would really up the value.

I like them, I like tea in the morning and I am a soda drinker too.....yes, the are smaller than I would like, but having refreshment whenever I want it is good for me! :)

though for the people that don't want to go back to the room to leave them there, I never waste any time eating breakfast in the food court, so I would be taking it back to my room while I am getting ready.....I wouldn't have it anywhere I wouldn't need it...

For DH and I - the mugs are totally worth it. We both drink soda/pop and I also drink a lot of unsweetened tea. We do eat at CS in our resort and spend a fair amount of time at the resort bar (which is right next to the food court). It really depends on how much you would use them and each person/family's use will be different - we save money using the mugs.

Some people will find value in them, some people won't. We don't drink soda or anything with sugar or artificial colors, sweeteners or flavors and I don't like drinking hot beverages from plastic cups, so they could give them to us for free and I still wouldn't use them.

We haven't bought them in years. We already have a set at home, so we don't need more. I don't like the walk down and back from the room to get the refills. I'm not a "Coke" person, and I find ordering a couple of cases of Dr. Pepper from Garden Grocers is a whole lot more economical and convenient, and more to my general liking.

Are the mugs are only good for your length of stay at each resort? We're doing split stays with a few days away from Disney in between.

The length-of-stay activation is quite long and typically extends well past your actual trip, so your mugs should remain active the whole time I'd guess.

I get it free on the dining plan. But I usually use it heading out of the resort and coming back from a park.

I won't lie to you, I can drink 3-4 cups full with dinner if we're eating in the resort food court. With each one costing say $2 for a soda, that's almost $10 right there for one night. Say another drink in the morning or two and yep it's a good deal.

Resort paper cups can be re-used for 2 hours. You don't need a new cup each time.

Now that resort guests have magic bands, why couldn't Disney just use them to activate the drink machines and eliminate the mugs all together.I would get a lot more drinks if I could just use a diposable cup and didn't have to carry the mug everywhere or hike back to my room before leaving the resort.

I would only find the mugs to be worth the price if I was planning a very resort-heavy trip...which I am not likely to do. Now, when it comes with free dining, it is a nice souvenir, but I still don't use it much while at Disney. I like to "travel light" in the parks, and we typically leave from breakfast directly to the parks without going back to the room. Carrying a mug all day is not in my plans.

they used to be so much nicer when they were each designed for their specific resorts.

I agree! They made me happy, and I always purchased one for each of us. We still use them, but they are not as special when you take them home.
