Anyone done one of the Prix Fixe menus at a resort hotel?

I am travelling down in a couple of weeks (yeah for a hopefully warm weekend getaway!). Not doing the parks, but oddly staying at Pop since I booked an awesomely cheap rate ($60/nt).

Thinking of doing a dinner at a resort, and noticed that 1 or 2 seem to have Prix Fixe menus (Kona Cafe--which I'm not too terribly fond of---and Captain's Grille at Yacht Club). Seems like a good deal (of which I am fond and which are hard to find at Disney).

Thanks for any info.

You have listed the only two I know about. Obviously, there are the family skillets like at 'Ohana (not really a "skillet") or WCC--where you are not taking your food from a buffet but it's brought to your table.

Not a resort but several of the Epcot restaurants have this as well: Chefs de France, Marrakesh, Nine Dragons. You get to pick from a limited number of appetizers plus entrees plus desserts, whether you are paying on DDP (which does not normally include appetizers) or OOP.

We ate at the Captain's Grille in August and I ordered from the prix fixe menu. We were on the DDP and our server told me that I wasn't limited to the 3 desserts listed since I would be able to get any dessert with the plan. I was going to order an entree that was listed on prix fixe menu anyway, so I figured I might as well get an appetizer, too. It was still only 1 TS credit.

When paying OOP I think whether or not it can be considered a deal depends on what you order. If you order the cheapest items in each category, you don't save anything. (Literally, I just did the math and you would be spending .02 more :sad2:)

Three of my favorite Orlando places have pre fixe menus, but they are not on Disney property.

Ruth's Chris Steak House on Sand Lake Road has the best steak ever. For $40-$50 you can get appie, entree, side dish and dessert. I know it sounds expensive, but this place has the best steak EVER!!! Since the steaks alone , without sides, run $36 - $45 this is a great deal. The sides are to die for, BTW. The best au gratin spuds in the world.

Tchoup Chop is an Emeril Lagasse restaurant located at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal. The resort is absolutely beautiful. Worth the trip just to see it. The food is Polynesian and very good. This is a bit less expensive and well worth the price. Favorites are pot stickers, sushi, mahi mahi, braised short ribs, and coconut cream pie.

Roy's is also on Sandlake Road. This is a Hawaiian chain by famous chef Roy Yamaguchi. Similar menu to Kona Cafe but much better food. Runs about the same price, too. Great steaks and seafood included as options on the pre fixe menu. Awesome martinis. You also get edamame as soon as you get in as a free appie, kinda like most places give bread. You get great Hawaiian sweet bread as well. This is a very good deal.

If you have a car, get off-site for one of these places. It is well worth the 15-20 minute drive.

Thanks for the feedback. I do have a car, (another bargain....$47 for the entire weekend on a oneway TPA-MCO rental!) so I can go offsite. I'm doing a 1/2 marathon on Saturday, so I'll be hungry. No park tickets, so whatever I do will be out of the park.
