Nope. I love to visit other resorts to eat quick service. But if I have a car, I’ll take a chance and drive. That’s part of the adventure for us. Being turned away is not time consuming or a big deal. You just move on and have a plan B.By that logic -- going to a value resort for the quick service probably wouldn't be something of interest either. For you. But it is for the OP. Yes they could stick to the monorail but they've expressed interest in visiting other resorts. And unfortunately the only way to guarantee they won't be turned away is to take WDW transportation.
OP -- consider the transportation part of the adventure. When we resort hop we try to use different modes of transportation and possibly different routes than the most direct.
The OP also doesn’t sound keen on using Disney transportation. So my best advice is to drive. If they want a surer thing, the AllStars/Port Orlean resorts are good bets for getting in by car.
