Resort Hopping - Need help please!

We will be staying 4 nights at POR then changing hotels on a Tuesday for 4 nights at the Poly. What is the best way to go about changing hotels.

I have planned to go to Universal Studios that day. Can I check in really early at the Poly and have them hold our luggage?
Suggestions please!!!!

From what I understand from reading these boards is that Disney will transfer your luggage for you and when you arrive at the Poly after your day at Universal it should be in your room, unless you have some special requests I think that is all you should have to do.
