The last time I stayed at the Dolphin you could request no resort fee and then just not use the extra amenities. I thought I read somewhere that was no longer possible and the resort fees are now mandatory. Is that true?

I hope this isn't true!! I always have them waive the resort fee, because I don't use those extra amenities (health club, newspaper, etc). I would hate to pay for things I don't use!

When we were there last month they would only waive 1/2 of it ($5.00). Maybe you will have better luck.

When I called to make my reservations at the Swan, I inquired about waiving the resort fee and was told that all guests are charged the $10 fee and that it was nonnegotiable. If this is the case, why not charge that amount for the rooms? Otherwise, it leaves you feeling as if you are being charged for something that you have no intention of using.

We had a great stay at the Dolphin last year, and will be there again in May, and I agree with crs7568, in that if it's not negotiable, then just add it to the total room cost. Heck, even with the Govt. Rate, it would come out to be $154/night with taxes, and that still is a heck of a lot cheaper than the $325 rack rates.

I don't like to complain, especially because we really like the Swan/Dolphin, but we aren't coffee drinkers, we don't use the gym while on vacation, we hopefully won't need to make any phone calls, and although the paper is nice, I can live without it.
So, the way it is now, it does make me feel that I'm throwing away a total of $80 for a resort fee for things that I won't even be using.

Thanks for your help. I agree with the rest of you and don't feel like I should be charged for something I'm not going to use. It sounds like a "hit or miss" kind of thing. Maybe if you make a big deal out of it then they only charge you half rate. If it mandatory then they should just add it right into the price.

Isn't there unlimited water in bottles - maybe in the health club? You could also take a couple of those each day!

I've never heard of the unlimited water bottles before. If that is true I would make use of that...

The room rate is not simply raised by $10.00 because the resort fee is not taxed at the 11.5% tax rate that rooms are.

The resort fee is $10..00 including tax.

I recently spoke with the reservation desk at the S&D - they have no option but to include the fee on your reservation. It will not be waived when you make the reservation. She stated that she has heard of it being waved on check-in.

I then spoke with the front desk, they stated that if you are not going to make use of any of the items covered by the fee it can be waved on check-in.

In my instance - we always get 2 connecting rooms. I stated that I have no problem paying the fee on the room with the adults - as we will use the coffee, newspaper, and especially the high speed internet access! She said that in a case like that - having one room fee waived is no problem at all....

I have been charged for the water every time I have stayed at the Dolphin, most recently two weeks ago. And they did tell me that they would not waive the resort fee, when I told her that it had been done for me in Nov she appoligized and said they were no longer allowed to take it off. Then when I returned home and spoke with someone who I traveled with she informed me that they had waved the fee for her and her husband. This proves that its all who you talk to. Another example, I had a very bad experience with a flooding room at the dolphin... I was there for 3 weeks and all they did was clean the carpets and then say it was fixed. The morning after it would be flooded again. At the end of my stay I asked how they would make up for not taking care of it, not moving me to another room when requested, Never calling to see if it had been taken care of. The front desk just said they were sorry. When I got home my wife called back to complain once more... And the gentlemen she spoke with offered her a two week stay at no cost, sad to say that she was so upset that she told him we would never stay there again, I couldn't believe she told him that, it is so not true. But anyways just another example of it being all about who you talk to!!!

ps. do you think if I know the guys name whom my wife spoke with I wouldn't be over stepping the boundaries by calling back to see if the offer still stands??? hehehe

WOW!! For a free two week stay I sure would give it a try!!
