Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

I've lost track too :rotfl: but I know so far I've changed from every deluxe resort, at least once
I can relate! I, too have changed our last seven nights (haven't touched the first five) to AND from every Deluxe except BWI & CR. I've even booked/un-booked WL and Poly twice! We are kindred spirits!

Just today I got the inexplicable urge to change from Poly/CL back to YC/CL. Any thoughts? Anyone?

Moving? You're moving? Did I miss all this since I've been away from the thread for a few days? What else did I miss? I know I'm missing the meet since we depart the World on 8-5:guilty:. I can't wait to see all the photos:hyper:

Well, we've been planning, but then the housing market tanked, so it was put on hold...DD absolutely wants to sell this house before buying another...do not blame her for not wanting two mortgage payments. They want to move to FL because there is no state income tax (personally, I prefer 3/4 seasons, but guess I could adjust to palm trees everyday.:rotfl:). We have a very small family, DD has a dear friend in the Tampa area and sil has his sister & her family on the east coast of FL, so it makes sense; Sophia would have family reasonably nearby. We are not crazy about NC. They were strongly considering St Augustine but now looking at the St Petersburg area - more vibrant on that coast (not including Miami on the east coast...not sure if Miami would be considered vibrant or crazy.;))

:rotfl: Know the feeling!!! This sounds like a perfect change though!:thumbsup2

Well...since you asked...:rolleyes1 I was thinking about the Poly being in need of a refurb...it will be 6 yrs in 2012 since the last refurb started and that usually means the resort is in need and rooms are showing the wear and tear. I saw your post on the Poly thread about the guest service and filth on your last stay. We've been staying at the Poly since 1982 and the difference in 2007 was incredible to me. Back in the day, the Poly was known for the laid back, warm guest service, always a smile, always helpful. Back in the 80's and early '90's all Disney resorts were known for cleanliness etc. In '07 we had a CM who was either having a very bad day or hated dealing with guests. I've read others mentioning a CM with the same dour personality and I swear it's the same one. We had a similar experience with most every CM we encountered. The room was newly refurbished, but still covered in dust. We had a special cleaning set up through special needs, but the Poly somehow "forgot" to have it taken care of ( I have an immune issue so the special cleaning they do makes a world of difference for me. It is not the usual "VIP" cleaning some DISers mention, but much more). The CM actually used the term "forgot"!! Anyhoo...it was so disappointing and reading so many DISers reporting the same, that every time I've made a Poly ressie, I change it. It would be very unlikely I'd go back now that the time for a refurb is approaching.

How much did you like YC CL? More than BWI CL? I know you're like me about MK resorts - it is just more magical over there. I am no help at all b/c I'd be torn as well. LOVE the Poly, it will always be our home resort, but I just don't know if I would stay before the next refurb.

After such a long winded reply, I said absolutely nothing helpful!! Follow your intuition.:thumbsup2 If you keep coming back to not wanting to be disappointed in the Poly, then stay elsewhere. Wouldn't you be happier at WL CL though? BTW - I have read a lot of issues with the Poly CL rooms - some seem to be in pretty bad shape, which leads me not to want to try Poly CL (other reason too, but that was a major one).

Helpful as mud???:rotfl:

I've been away from you guys for far too long :grouphug: but I'm pleased to say I've just had another 'little' change.

I've stayed true to my word and not changed my first 6 nights at the BC CL but after reading reviews of the GF SL recently my heart was saying 'return to my special place' i.e. BWI CL, soooooo I'm now staying my last 2 nights at the BWI CL, returning to the resort and CMs I love:cloud9:

:rotfl: Hope it wasn't me that scared you off! Seriously, it's rare to see such stages of undress at a CL lounge, I just happened to see a lot of it at RPC. :goodvibes

Hi RCers. I'm off the my log cabin in NC mountains for 4th of July holiday for a cool respite. No computer and no internet and barely phone service... ahhh unplugged.
Have a great week and don't make too many changes! :hippie:

Have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

What else did I miss? I know I'm missing the meet since we depart the World on 8-5:guilty:. I can't wait to see all the photos:hyper:

We wish you could be there too! I hope I can just do a lot of mini meets and meet as many RC'ers as I can! :cool1: And there will be pictures!

I am so planning on getting step in a crown! :thumbsup2

Don't do it! :scared1: Poly CL is wonderful, and the resort itself is wonderful IMHO. :)

YC/CL is unexplored territory... :upsidedow

We are not crazy about NC. They were strongly considering St Augustine but now looking at the St Petersburg area - more vibrant on that coast (no including Miami on the east coast...not sure if that could be considered vibrant or crazy.;))

Ummm Crazy!

Mud? Are you kidding? That was exactly what I needed to hear and I can't thank you enough! Boy, you would make an excellent (resort?) therapist. You really captured the exact issue I've had since our last stay at the Poly in '07.

I'm really scared to go back. I'll even admit that I may have even swore that I would never go back after our last experience there and after reading so many negative room condition and some CL reviews.

I've read all those same reviews as you for years and you're exactly right about the degradation of the resort rooms there and the general lack of upkeep. And, I had forgotten that it's "due" for a rehab. There was a rumor a few months ago that I think I may have posted about that all the rooms actually might be torn down and re-built.

We all know of the great advantages to staying there (setting, transportation options, theming, restaurants, close to GF), but it seems few want to talk about the problems there. Their comments either get ignored or disagreed with. Now, I will say that after I posted my Poly comment today, a few posters were in agreement with me on some of the problems, but that's just a few out of thousands who read the thread. And, the guy I responded to about his concern over going back there, hardly got any responses. I'm sure it's primarily due to the venue being the Poly thread so I understand that.

You asked about BWI, but that, the GF and the BC are the only Deluxes I've not stayed at. I have no complaints about our August YC/CL experience except that I wasn't crazy about some of the bad views of rooftops and SAB which I find noisy. I switched only because we weren't booked at the CR and I missed it and the MK area that trip.

DH is happy with any Deluxe (except AKL) and he's never gotten to stay yet at an Epcot resort so I feel like he should get to try it out. But, then I went and got him all excited about the Poly and I guess he forgot about our last stay there and those negative reviews I fuss over:rolleyes1

I think the thought of moving to FL is exciting! We lived in the Keys and we have family in Boca Raton. I love that there's no state taxes and the cost of living (in the St. Pete area) would be pretty low.

Keep us posted and thanks again for "talking this through" with me:goodvibes

Don't do it! :scared1: Poly CL is wonderful, and the resort itself is wonderful IMHO. :)

YC/CL is unexplored territory... :upsidedow

Ummm Crazy!

No, not unexplored! I stayed YC/CL last August. Now, it was supposed to be for 8 nights and after one night I "needed" to go back to the CR. This trip the CR is already covered for the first 5 nights;)

I've also stayed at the Poly in '03 and '07, but never CL there. '03 was great, '07 stunk and we moved to, you guessed it, the CR after 3 nights:rotfl:

Christine suggested I switch back (for the third time:rotfl:) to WL CL since I really liked it. But that darn transportation is a lot less convenient and the room is much smaller. Any thoughts on that? It's even $500 less:rolleyes:

BTW, I thought you were gone to your cabin w/o WiFi so when I saw you posted, I got excited:). Thanks for coming to my rescue:goodvibes.

I think you should keep your Poly/CL reservation because you mentioned before staying at CL at the YC and leaivng early since you didn't like it.
But, you remember why I left? This time the CR is already booked. And, I thought you and your family really didn't like the Poly and have no desire to return? Have you guys ever stayed at the YC/CL or WL/CL?

We liked the Polynesian, however I also mentioned to you we liked the Contemporary a bit more and towards the end of our stay I remember missing it and always seeing it from our room. Although I wouldn't say no to staying there again in the future.

We haven't CL at the YC and we have stayed a few times at the WL, however those were not CL stays.

Oh, I didn't know you'd go back to the Poly.

Do you already know where you're staying in December?

Have a wonderfully peaceful time at your cabin. It is funny years ago when I first started going to WDW I loved the fact that from the moment I got on the plane until I pulled back into the driveway at home, work was the furtherist thing from my mind before that if I stayed home there were endless phone calls and once I even ended up going to a district meeting right in the middle of my vacation which caused DH and I to have words and promted me to buy our first answering machine, no more work calls were taken:rotfl:
But I realized those days of peace at Disney are now gone forever when I last vacationed with Ddil there she was stopping to work, answering emails etc all work related as we walked around the parks. Technology has inturrupted what was once a place you could get away from it all.

If I were ever to do a split stay, which I somehow doubt since DH is strongly against changeing resorts mid-trip, I would do a MK/EP split. I say change to YC/CL

I stayed YC/CL many years ago but never even ventured to the lounge as we were upgraded at check-in and already had our meals planned out but I have to say the concierge was very attentive calling each day to see if there was anything he could help us out with.

::yes:: I had forgotten about that!

I do have to chime in hear to say that in three Poly stays, I only once had an issue with a room in need of some attention. :) (And that was the "poop" room and the non English speaking housekeeper)

But on the whole I've found that the rooms are in good shape, and well kept up. But we did have a noise issue each time. But that was more due to unruly guests than to the resort itself.

It is in need of a refurbishment, but as I said above, the rooms, especially the room we had in Hawaii was in great shape. :)

So then why not stay CL at the Poly one last time? If it really stinks, then you can move to WL CL or somewhere else (like GF SL?) :rolleyes1

But if you truly have doubts about the resort, then go with tried and true, and rebook the WL. :goodvibes

Why did you switch from there anyway? I forgot :guilty:

You're right, that's the way a proper split should be done. I just keep getting cold feet about the Epcot resorts - there's just something about those MK resorts that keep drawing me in (except for GF :upsidedow).

The poop room:eek:? I know I don't really want to know the details, but, I do want to know if the "situation" was eventually remedied to your satisfaction?

I've asked for a room without a connecting door and top floor (my room request mantra) in hopes of mitigating neighborly noises. I'm ultra sensitive to noises in hotel rooms so I'm hoping my request can be honored.

Why did I switch from WL - twice? Umm, good question... My way back resort changing machine seems to think the first time was because I initially wanted to book a deluxe room there, but it wasn't bookable with our discount so I booked a regular CL room which I then worried would be too small when DH mentioned how it was the smallest Deluxe resort room size, so I later switched to the BC deluxe room.

The second time I changed was from WL/CL to Poly because I was worried (again) about that smallish room size and the limited transportation options and having a dormer balcony (all the WL/CL rooms have standing balconies).

I'm hopeless, but I know I'm with friends here:grouphug:

Not sure if this will help or make your decision harder but take my family and I as an example. Up until last year all our previous times staying onsite was at the Monorail Resorts or Wilderness Lodge, so it was always in the Magic Kingdom area. Well we weren't sure how we would like the Boardwalk and if we would miss having access to the Resort Monorail. Well as you know it was better then we thought since we only stayed at the Boardwalk in December 2010 and will be staying there again this August, then we will be at the Beach Club.

Hypothetically speaking, of course, if I were to switch back (for the third time) to WL/CL, would the WL IPO know that I had already been booked there and switched twice since January or would it be pretty much just between us and the WDTC?

When I switched back to the Poly after switching a few days prior, I thought I had to sort of re-introduce myself to the IPO, but it turned out that the IPO still had my requests in their system from when I first booked there and it almost seemed as if the IPO had no idea I had ever switched.

OH, MY! You all have been busy!!!! :scared1::happytv:

Well, I a changing AGAIN!!! (where's a smilie pulling out her hair? They need one here!)
DH doesn't want to be moving all around, PLUS I have been informed of DS' huge budget college moving increase to Austin in August! All these "extras" good ol' mom and dad didn't count on spending are coming out of the wood-work now! Plus the apartment needs to be "furnished"... somewhat! LOL :rotfl:

So, out goes the GF RPC Deluxe queen room (and sweet promises of another trip there in the future  ) and I booked our first Disney resort, the Poly, gardenview.
40% off Bounceback can't be picky, it's what they had. :yay:

Now, don't throw water on the YC CL, I just came back from there in May and it was very good, not the RPC. But I have to tell you, the WL CL, it is really a great CL. Lots of people "throw rocks at it" but it is a fine CL with excellent service. And I have stayed at every CL many times over on Disney property.
Not every time. Obviously we're poor college parents right now, LOL!

DH said it's going to be like the commercial where we send him off to college and we escape to WDW! Now, I like that idea!

Congratulations to DS on heading to college! We used to live in San Angelo and I really miss TX. You sound like us, but we still have 5 more years. I told DH that I can't wait to head to WDW in the totally off-season after she graduates.

I'm really impressed with all your CL stays. I loved the Old Faithful Club when we were there over Christmas. What did you think of the Poly's CL? We're currently booked GV, but have never stayed CL there. It gets mixed reviews and we had a really bad stay there in '07, but a good stay there in '03. Would love to hear your thoughts.

There was a time that I thought the Poly had a fine CL, one of the top on property, especially in the late 90's, early 2000's. Chef Dick had that place top notch, you have to admit. Now, I have not stayed since Chef Dick has retired, and I would've loved to stayed at the CL if we could have, don't get me wrong! ;) Just to try it and see the difference and why some are griping. Some people have nothing to gage CL by. You can't compare WDW CLs with offsite CLs. Just can't. Different animal. ::yes::

The Tonga longhouse is fabulous as far as service, second to the 14th floor TOWER CLub at the CR. Now, I would love to have DH take me THERE in lieu of RPC to those new rooms/suites when they are finished! Just wonderful, that whole floor~love it!:cloud9:

Hope I didn't ramble to much!

I know this was not directed at me, but I'm going to jump in anyway. ;)

Think I missed that you have Poly GV CL booked? Okay, I guess I am the only one here that shares your Poly experience and would hesitate to stay there again until after the next refurb - even then I'd do so expecting some of the CM's to be less than cheery, although CL would help with that....but...her comes the but....I would absolutely NEVER stay GV CL because some of those views are plain awful! The back of the pool storage bldg, nothing but a tree in full bloom...maybe it's just me but if I stay Poly CL is will be a lagoon view with a request for 3rd floor (no 2nd fl balcony, as you know).

What about GF SL CL? It is still an MK resort, it would be a new experience - the rooms are large and lovely and until I stayed there, never appreciated the ambiance.

Or if DH would enjoy an EPCOT resort how about BWI CL? It has the absolute best CL reviews. I'm with you about YC rooftop views and even some so called water views that are nothing more than a very obstructed SAB view. While I dislike the creepy BW clown pool, there is a quiet pool...and you can request a water view with CL. :thumbsup2

I love strolling through International Gateway over to one of the EPCOT resorts (have stayed at all except YC, including S/D)...but do miss being on a monorail resort and that special ambiance of an MK resort.

Again, as much as I love the Poly, would not stay there until a refurb. And while I'm not a fan of CL in general, we did seriously consider Poly and/or BWI CL, but BWI would have won out b/c Poly CL offerings do not appeal to me. Maybe I'm odd. :rotfl:

(p.s. Would you not recommend the St Pete area? We miss the Cambridge/Boston lifestyle - sorty of classy, yet very liberal and a nice mix of intellectual yet also old fashion neighborhoods - make sense?.

While I am a fan of CL, (heck, I am going to be lost NOT staying CL this next trip) ITA agree with you Christine! :thumbsup2

Yes, the Poly does need to do a complete rehab, especially on its CL longhouse. But, that doesn't excuse them from poor or lack luster service and cutbacks on food service. :sad2:

Now, according to Tikiman Steve, there have been several LHs that got rehabbed this last year, one of those I requested. ;)
Maybe they are doing them over again? :confused3

I haven't been reading Tikiman lately (since it makes me sad not planning a stay at Poly) so had no idea some LH's have been refurbed! Did he say how much? Which ones? Heading over to his site now - thank you!

p.s. I've not stayed CL yet b/c I cannot bring myself to pay so much for some snacks and services I don't really need. Nevertheless, I have been very tempted to try GF SL CL or BWI CL, but fear if I did, I'd be hooked for life!!:scared1: Then would certainly want to try Poly CL with a lagoon view.:thumbsup2 No WL CL or AKL CL b/c of the enclosed balconies though. Heck, I'd be trying every CL!! :rotfl:
