Resort Changers--The Saga Continues.....

Ok. I have a "switching" question.

Is anyone else here like me - when I switch it's because somehow I think that the resort I'm switching to is going to be better for some reason than the one I just had?

Or, does anyone else switch because they can't afford the resort they really want? Or maybe just because it's not available? :listen:

I'd do it! :)

And BTW both of you are younger me's. ;)

My best hair job was the one with the super blonde on top, cut in a shag and shaved up the back with polka dots on the back of my head. It was sooo cool looking!

I'm the youngest in this group so don't feel bad! I make everyone feel old! Especially since a lot of people think I'm like 16-18. Even my boyfriend feels old. Well, I make him feel old by telling him he is old because he's almost 30. My mom and some of his friends give him crap by calling him a cradle robber. :rotfl:

You better have pictures of that hair job! It sounds fantastic! :thumbsup2

Pertaining your question about switching, I switched because my gramma is a resort snob. :snooty: :rotfl: She doesn't want to stay at a resort with a catwalk so it had to be deluxe. If I did more switching, it would be because of price mainly and/or availability. As you can tell because I keep calling back to see if a non-club level room is available.

For our trip in June, I never really switched, but I did make a back-up reservation!:guilty: I made our original reservation back in early September for late June at BWI (garden view). At first I wanted a BWV studio, but when DH saw the pictures of the pink walls he put an end to that pretty quickly!:rolleyes1 I made that reservation through a TA at one of the big Disney agencies. I settled in to wait for a discount or a pin code, but alas, everything I got wasn't good for my dates.

A few weeks after I made the first reservation I discovered the teacher rates at the Swolphin. I made a reservation at the Dolphin for what I thought was a very good rate, but I was having a hard time getting excited about the trip. Still, I didn't want to pay the non-discounted rate for BWI.

Just when I was about to give up and cancel BWI, my TA e-mailed me and said she had gotten us the 30% discount on a water-view room. I was thrilled! After crunching my numbers, although the room rate at BWI is still quite a bit more more expensive than the rate at the Dolphin, being able to do the DDxDP will be a big savings for us, and it brings the two resorts to within $200 of each other. I'm going with the BWI, which is the resort I originally booked and the one I get the most excited about.:yay:

The funny thing is, a big part of my problem all along was feeling like I wasn't getting a good "deal." I'm only saving about $200 off the original booking because the water-view rooms are priced so much higher than garden view. It's the PERCEPTION that I'm getting a "bargain" that makes the cost so much easier to stomach!:confused3

We didn't actually switch from this resort because we never had a reservation there, although we had talked about staying there. Before we had reserved the Beach Club part of our August/September 2011 trip we had talked about trying Sugar Loaf at the Grand Floridian. Now part of the reason we didn't stay there is because we like having everything in one main building, so staying in Sugar Loaf would mean walking to the Royal Palm for their stores and etc. So I guess with Royal Palm being sold out that's why we choose not to stay there.

are you kidding me??? my sister and I have the same addiction the last two trips. last year was a nov/dec stay I went down in jan for bounce back got bc sister changed resi a least eight times. ended up with split stays at poly and akl. I don't know about anyone else but all the changing and deciding made the planning more fun:banana:

First, I'm honored to be called a younger you. Second, I want pics!

I switch for all of the above reasons. I also switch because I get the whim, I decide I like the decor better, or because the day ends in Y!

That's how I am too. If I feel that I'm getting a "good deal" I'm a lot happier with cost, place of stay, etc. Now this upcoming trip I'm not getting a "deal" at all. I had to pay rack rate. But at least I get to go!

I'm glad you got a good deal on your trip! :goodvibes

Fun or nerve wracking! :rotfl: I like to plan too. I found it's easier on my brain if I plan around the ADR's rather than the other way around. That way my ADR's (at least) stay put. :teeth:

Sorry gang - no pics of the hair. :sad1: I wish I did - I used to have some pretty radical hairstyles in my younger days. The polka dot one was pretty cool, so was the GI flat top that I had to wear a lot of scarves with. :rolleyes1 That one was a bit of a boo-boo hair wise.

I haven't had the back of my head shaved for a few years now. DH likes it long and grey () so I compromise by having it medium length and just boring blonde.

 I might get a hair wrap when I go though....

I'm never gonna be happy with the resort I have booked. Well...it's not that I'm not happy because I was happy at ASMovies and I LOVE all the resorts and I want to stay at them all but it's just that, ya never know when it will be your last trip or that they are all so great that it's sooooooooooooo hard! If I switch to POFQ it's so much more affordable and if I switch I'd be wanting to switch back and it's a neverending mind game! :crazy2:

Ok thanks for listening to me not making sense. :3dglasses

I switch for that EXACT reason......and BTW I LOVE the Mickey pumpkin:) For our girls trip we are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO getting wigs. I wanna be hot pink thank you for the inspiration LillianGracey and Disneydreamin247. The closest I came was purple. Now I just try to cover the greys.

makes perfect 'dis' sense to me:laughing:we all seem to be wired a bit differently here!

i've been lucky to stay @ many of the onsite hotels (booked thru both CRO & DVC). For me, it's more about stretching my vacation budget to accommodate multiple trips per year:yay: vs 1 big do-all/see-all. Often I need to book one of them thru CRO. We're big fans of POFQ & I'm happy enough to 'squish' into a value if it's just a short stay or FDP is involved;).

:thumbsup2 I would LOVE to go multiple times a year, you are lucky!!! I love the theming at the values myself!

bitohoney Every time we go my DH says OK last time for Disney for awhile:rotfl: So I am excited to go, no matter WHERE we stay:banana:

I so understand where you are coming from.
The trip I had to cancel last year , we were booked at AKL and I kept thinking about switching to BC or BW so when we went to book this trip I was sure I wanted to stay at BC but ended up booking CR TPV, I always wanted to stay there. The the more I thought about it since we wanted to expierence F&W I switched to BC but I still keep thinking about the Monorail resorts, like you said it might be our last trip..who knows only thing I would love to stay GF but I want to stay there during the Christmas holidays and oh the Poly I love the tropical theme but DH is not so keen on it and I keep thinking if I change I need to do it before I make our ADR's as I would be changeing some of them for sure ........Ugh just don't know what to do :confused3

Of course not! You are very young. ;)

haha I feel very old. I'm less then enamored with the idea that I'll be 27 in 3 years. :crazy2:

I've had quite a few boo-boos

You should buy a wig and wear it when your DH is not around. ;)

This :thumbsup2

I do the same thing! Staying 9 nights CL at Poly/GF is making my wallet :scared1: but it's the only option for us this trip so I have no choice. There's no way to not stay on the monorail with DD being so young.

Yes! We'll be the coolest bunch there :rotfl:

So I'm going through major vacation homesickness. DD turns 18 tomorrow  and for the past 2 years for her birthday, we have gone to WDW with one of her friends and have had perfect trips  Prior Aprils we have been to DL or somewhere else. This April...nowhere. :guilty: I'm going to look at youtube videos right now to make me feel better.

Now that I think we are set, I will confess that my ADRs have changed WITH my resort changes...Luckily I found availability at all the places I have wanted. It tough when there are so many EXCELLENT choices:confused3 I've already started thinking about a Christmas trip at WL...But I also booked a May trip at Poly, but I like CR...and I CAN'T do 2 in one year. So I totally get itpopcorn:: You are in good company here:laughing:

bitohoney Happy Birthday to DD!! Sorry you two can't celebrate at Disney this time-she's the one graduating this year right??

disneydreamin247 Good morning momma:goodvibes

Makes perfect sense! I do the same thing. Like for this trip, since it might be my only solo trip, I stressed over the resort choices to try to make everything perfect. :guilty:

I do the same thing with other trips too - but it's usually over the second part of the "split" that I worry about the most. I like too many resorts. :sad1:

Thank you! I had fun on the Behind the Seeds tour. I've taken it twice now. :)

I think I'll stick with a tiara or a nice hat. Wigs are too itchy and remind me of my ex MIL (that witch).

That's a good point too. I just try to book each trip like it might be my last one though, and try not to think about the next one. :upsidedow

Well, except for now, when I have August already planned and am thinking it would be good to go solo again over Christmas. :rolleyes1

 I understand. It wouldn't seem like spring to me without a WDW trip, and we haven't missed one of DS18's birthdays in the World for four years now. Maybe TR's would help a bit? :goodvibes

Ohhhh TR's is a great idea. I forgot about the TR's.
