Has anyone ever gotten to a resort, not really liked it, and then moved to another resort? Is this possible? Is there a penalty?

I have seen quite a few people mentioning they did this, and no one has ever mentioned a penalty. I think Disney wants you happy and will work with you to make you happy!

We did this once, it was six years ago and we changed from GF concierge to BWI concierge. There was not a penalty and we were charged the appropriate rate for the room we stayed in each night. In other words, they did not charge us the GF rate the whole time!

The CM that asssited us in our change on the GF side was a bit cool when he realized we wanted to switch, but that kind of service is one of the reasons we changed in the first place. :sad1:

All in all, I find that Disney will do whatever is in the realm of possibility to make you happy. Just some CMs do that with more grace than others.

We did this in 2004. We tried "downsizing" and booked POR. We checked in, our room was ready, we left our luggage in our room and headed over to MK. Well Dh wasn't happy with the room, the bus was standing room only, and when we got off at MK and DH watched the boat coming over from GF and Poly he decided that was it! The kids and I went into MK and DH set out on his mission. His plan was to go to GF, Poly, CR or WL (in that order) in hopes that we would be able to switch.

We had no problem switching to the GF, and in fact since we already had the AP rate for POR, they gave us the AP rate for the GF.

Got to the All Star in '05 and decided we didn't want to stay there after all. The CM at the desk called over to CSR and had us moved immediately. Of course, we had to pay the difference between the rooms. It was really not a big deal.

If there is availability Disney will not mind moving you to another resort. However, you should expect to pay the difference in room rate, or expect a refund if you downsize. I have never heard of any extra fees being charged. Disney will also take care of moving your luggage if you choose to switch. We have changed resorts once - DH was not happy at POR due to, among other things, housekeeping and transporation issues so we asked about availability at other resorts. We ended up in a king courtyard room at WL at no extra charge - the no charge isn't normal but I think they were trying to make up for some of the problems we had. As long as you go into the situation prepared to pay the room rate difference you won't have any trouble if another room is available.

This happened on our recent trip in August. I think with all the planning that goes into trips to WDW and the wealth of information here and on other sites, everyone makes the very best choice they can and sticks with it.

In our case, I called CRO for a 10 day stay - originally split between POR and WL. Then I asked for quotes on POFQ and WL. Then just WL. They didn't have the rooms for the split and the prices were insane. The CM kept offering me a Fort Wilderness cabin. I declined. Then she offered me an "upsell" rate at YC that was awesome. I would have never asked for or even considered YC without the rate.

(Upsell rates are very rare. They are unpredictable. Do not "expect" them. I was lucky.)

Got on the DIS. Collected input. Did my homework. Got psyched for SAB and boats to Epcot. Was a bit worried about food court issues but went with it.

We checked into YC and all was lovely. Bell services was great. SAB was great. Room location was convenient. They acknowledged DD's birthday with a rose and an autograph with balloons.

But it wasn't for us. Didn't feel Disney-like for many reasons. Looked very much like the seaside town I've lived and worked in for the past 25 years. Spoke to several kind CM's who immediately knew my first choice had been WL, and we were moved the next day for the remainder of our stay to WL. I was given to understand it would be an "even" exchange.

There were some problems with my debit card, as they were removing and crediting over $3000 within a couple of days for their bookeeping purposes. Then they "lost" the YC room charges. WL had trouble with the ressie and the computer and a manager had to handle it. In the end, it cost me no more or less than I had planned, and we were thrilled and comfortable and "home" at WL. We're booked there for our January trip.

So the short answer is yes. But I don't expect to ever have to do it again. I learned lots about myself, my family's vacation style, and which resorts I will and will not try. Thank goodness Disney was willing to work with me on this - they know they've got a loyal customer and sprinkled the pixiedust liberally!
