I was reading on another site about what you can do if you are an adult for your birthday. One thing was to tell the front desk at your resort that it is your birthday. My question is has anyone done this? and if so what did they do? Thanks

During our June 2002 trip for my 24th birthday, our travel agent informed Disney on our reservations for the resort, and all restaurants.
We got the royal treatment all week: at CSR,from our room being upgraded to a king view and being ready at 10am when checking in, to a small spa treatment, as well as balloons and a card in our room. Then, every restaurant for our entire stay was informed of my birthday and we had reserved tables with my name on them: On the water at Fulton's Crab House, looking out to the lake at the Swan, a window seat at Cinderella's and so many more! As well as a birthday "breakfast pan-cake" for me at Crystal Palace character breakfast, free dessert at Fulton's, Palio, and California Grill and birthday cards at some of the other restaurants.
My fiancee also bought me a birthday pin to wear in MK and a vendor gave me a free mickey head ice cream pop. The little things are so special!
When my fiancee called ahead to California Grill for our final night in WDW where he planned to surprise me and propose, he and all the hosts, waiters, bartenders and even other diners were in on it!
Disney did an incredible job making my birthday and our engagement amazingly special and memorable. All of it was done simply b/c the Travel Agent at DU noted my birthday!
I say to have them note it everywhere you go, and see what happens. Don't go expecting things, we didn't and even the mickey ice cream was special!
:)

We were at the Yacht Club for my dh's birthday in July. I sent a fax in advance saying that we were really looking forward to staying at our favorite resort and would appreciate anything they could do to make it extra special. We got an upgrade from standard to water view. They also sent a birthday card and balloons to the room.

You probably also know that the restaurants will do something for birthdays. I had that it was his birthday noted on both the reservations for that day and also for our Akershaus lunch later in the week -- I knew he would love having those beautiful Norwegian women singing to him. At both 1900 Park Faire and Boma, he was presented with a nicely decorated oversized cupcake. At 1900, Alice had the whole restaurant to sing to him and the characters all made a big deal about wishing him happy birthday. At both those restaurants, I also told the hostess that it was his birthday. When we got to Akershus, I did not mention his birthday and had forgotten that I had it on the reservation, so I was as surprised as he was when they brought us a cake (not cupcake). They sang to him in Norwegian and also presented a certificate signed by all the servers.

I was treated to a balloon, Donald Duck beanie, autograph book and autographed character birthday card at the Contemporary Resort for my 28th birthday. I was quite surprised at the fuss they made over my birthday.

Please don't get your hopes up too high. There have been many here who have mentioned special occasions and not received a thing. Disney is not consistent when it comes to special events. The special treatment I got was before 9/11. I imagine they've cut their budget back a bit in regards to what they give away. I've also seen some posters on other message forums (not here) talk about faking birthdays/anniversaries, etc... in order to get upgrades or freebies so I can understand why Disney doesn't always honor events.
In any event good luck and have a great trip!

For my birthday I got a signed picture of Mickey and Minnie and balloons in my room, but my sister had to pay for it.
So the perks are not always free.

I stayed in Poly concierge this December and for my birthday they put a cake, balloons, party hats, noise maker and a nice birthday card in our room.

At the very least, ask for a "Today is My Birthday" pin at Guest Services as you enter the parks. Every Cast Member that notices will tell you happy birthday, sometimes in a special way, as you tour the park. You'll also receive a cupcake with a candle at the full-service restaurants. It's the best birthday you'll ever have.

We were at the poly 3 years ago for my birthday and we got balloons, card, cake, and a mickey shaped candle. We went this past december for my niece and husband's birthdays. My niece got balloons and a card and my husband didn't get anything. We weren't disappointed as we had made our own plans for celebration and the restaurants gave the royal treatment. We're going again this year to YC and if my husband gets something great - if not, we won't be crushed or anything.
