Resort availability wk before Christmas

I'm a little perplexed...maybe you all might have some ideas?

I've been playing on the Disney site just to see what the availability is for Moderates the weekend before, the week before, the weekend of and the week after Christmas.

I found that the weekend before Christmas (dates around 12/16 - 12/19) is practically completely booked up for regular, preferred and water room choices...I see only suites available. Then around the 20th/21st things open up and there is standard room availability through New Years at most.

I would have expected the opposite. What am I missing and/or what is going on that would cause the resorts to be booked up around the weekend before Christmas, but not on Christmas or the week after?

Price?

I think the economy is still bad enough that people are watching what they spend. So if they have the option to travel while the discounts are available, they will.

Free dining ends on the 17th I believe. Which a lot of people will be leaving as soon as it ends. So that would make your dates invalid. I know that for our dates a room at CBR was open and more at All Star Music and Pop Century. The free dining offer brings in a lot of crowds.
