Wow - this thread is long - I will post my thoughts on the original post, although please forgive me for not reading through everyone's posts-
I've worked with a few different systems which tried to post information online for all to see - often, this a based on a data warehouse which refreshes on a pre-set basis. (in my case, ours refreshes every night)
So many things can go wrong with that - going through a live person who is working "live" in the reservations system keeps things much simpler and also preserves reservation accuracy.
Just my thoughts after working with a few different online datamart setups -
A thought on "live" systems:
Running the system "live" for us to reserve online would require system changes that Disney may find prohibitive to make, too.
And also open the system to potential hackers.
