We have been to POP and FW Cabins many times. We usually go in May or September. We would like to try a trip the week after Christmas now that 2 kids will be school age. We would also like to try a different resort. The benefit of the deluxe resorts as I see it is mainly the nicer pools, but in December we would not be using those. What are the other benefits of a deluxe if we are rarely at it? We usually open the parks, have a midafternoon break to swim, and then close the parks. My children are 7,4&1/2, and 3. Should we pay extra for the deluxe in December or save it for a summer trip? Any suggestions?

Have you considered the Swan or Dolphin? They can have some great rates and it is really convenient to EPCOT and MGM. We are booked for Dec for $189 a night at the AAA rate...and if you have AAA you can join SPG (Starwoods Preferred Guest) online and become a gold member immediately - when a room is available they upgrade at check-in (it was also mentioned here that you can call 5 days ahead to request the upgrade!).

Rooms are good size - but do not know the specifics of how many in the room etc.

POR AB has room for 5, with the trundle and it is a nice resort...but if you are going the week after Christmas the POP decorations are nicer than expected! No gingerbread house or anything, but the decorations are pretty and colorful, esp for a value:

having stayed at Deluxe in the heat of summer, I would save a stay for the hot months. You;d be closer to the resort - BC/YC has the fun Stormalong Bay and Poly has the volcano pool with slide....then again, POR and FQ have fun slides for the kids and CBR has not only main pool, but every village has a quiet pool.

So many decisions!! :)

Have fun planning!! :)

p.s. For the most part for me a big advantage to deluxe would be location and room size (although Wl & AK rooms are 344, not much larger than 315 of POR/CSR. CBR rooms are 340!) :) Poly/CR/GF have the largest deluxe rooms. BC/YC are 380 sq ft.
