Reserving Universal hotel with AP discount before arriving/activating AP?

We are planning a Universal trip and thinking we might just buy APs instead of daily passes to utilize the AP hotel discounts. But, can you book an AP discounted room before you arrive and activate your passes?

You can buy the AP in advance and activate it at the hotel
You can use the ap for specific discounts

Not all dates are valid for the AP hotel discount rate but qualify for food and merch discounts in the parks and city walk

(UO website will list places that qualifies for ap discounts )

You can also see AP rates and book that rate before you have purchased the AP. You just need the AP to be active before you check out.

If an AP rate room is available later, just book that & cancel your original reservation once you see it go thru

The AP rates that have been released, disappeared quickly.
So you would need to act fast to book whenever they are released for you dates

Thanks for all the help! I had no idea the AP didn't have to be active before being able to book an AP discounted room. I went ahead and booked Dockside and bought an AP for me and hubby. Still debating if we should just get 4 seasonal passes for the kids since we don't live in Florida and don't plan to visit during the blackout dates or even again in the next year.

Does the AP offer any discounts on resort parking? I was a little surprised after booking to see the $15 per day charge.

Sorry but no, as hotel does charge for parking each night

Twice I drove to RP and never moved my car from the hotel parking lot until it was time to check out and go home
Still had to pay the parking fee for all 9 nights at the hotel

We're the same way - we pull into whatever onsite hotel we're staying at & don't get back in the car until we head home & pay the parking fee for all nights & we're UOAP holders, too.

Last summer, we booked an AP rate for our hotel even though we only had regular tickets. I upgraded to an AP in the hotel lobby AFTER we checked in and was able to take my brand new AP over to the front desk and keep our AP rate for the hotel.
