Reserving lounge chairs???

My DF and I were in the adult pool a couple of times on our last cruise. We put our stuff (towels, shirts, shoes, my little purse) on a chair. I never even thought that I was 'reserving' a chair. For me, it was just a place to put my stuff.

I like the idea of having cubicles to put your things in. That way, you wouldn't have to take up chairs.

I will say that when we did that, there were plenty of open chairs, though. :thumbsup2

I always thought they should have bins (like at Mcdonalds play areas) for kids to put shoes and KTTW and towels in. When my girls were in middle school they would want to go swim and we would not always stay with them, and they needed a place to put stuff while they were in the pool. They both put stuff on one chair and no one ever moved it, but if they had a bin to use they would have used that instead.

NOW that my girls are in high school they are more in to sun bathing and so they will actually be in the chairs on the next cruise and not so much in the water. But still, they may want to go in briefly and I hope their stuff will still be there.

I wish people would not 'reserve' the hammocks at CC either. We sat next to an empty hammock for 2 hours last May, someone left their 'towel' on it. I was trying to get my 3 year old to nap so I laid him in the hammock and rocked him. Immediately a woman marched over and told me that was HER hammock and my son needed to get out of it RIGHT NOW! I basically told her (pretty nicely too, surprisingly) that if it was HERS she needed to put her a$$ in it and stay in it.

That's just a shame, it seems that if a person wants to sleep in a hammock, they'd be there. Also, I am not sure I would have given it back to her.

I've seen this on DCL and durning our visit to Myrtle Beach, we got to our hotel early and there was this man who came out with his families towels and started dropping towels on two rows of loungers. I looked at my husband and he looked at me and we just thought you've got to be kidding, there were like over 250 chairs and it was 7AM. It would have been funny if we moved them to a different pool(the hotel had like 6 pools and a water park).

That's insane. I don't know how people can just go through life being so selfish.

That happened to me on the EB Repo also. I had my towel with KTTW case and my pool coverup on a chair while I was in the hot tub with friends. They had towels and stuff on chairs around the same area. When I got out of the pool to leave my things were gone and there was someone else's bag, hats, and gold concierge KTTW cards on the chair. I know that it was the chair because it was inbetween my friends' chairs and their things were still there. I held up the hat just wanting to find where they had moved my things to so that I could go back to the room. The CM made an announcement calling the name on the card to come to the bar. I was beyond ticked at this point. They didn't respond of course due to either not being at the pool or not having the decency to answer. My friends and CMs and I searched the area and I found my things in the dirty towel bin. I thought that was beyond rude of whoever did it. A towel by itself is one thing but someone's KTTW card, shoes, and a coverup pretty much ensures that they are actually at the pool.

My sincere compliments for your restraint, Lisa. Had this happened to me I would have been tempted to return the favor by dumping some of the stuff in a towel bin and the hat overboard.

It states right on the chairs that there is no saving chairs. We actually asked a crew member working by the family pool and he said that if no one is sitting in the chair it's fair game. We people just taking someone's old towels off and sitting down. To be honest we never had the nerve to do that. We always managed to find at least two chairs. It all worked out.

On Pirates night they were showing the film, 2 loungers were available and I went to sit on one,the est15year old said, they are taken, I should have said, no they are not and sat down but I was taken a back and said oh ok,she then took her shoes off and put 1 on each chair, moving on 15 mins my butt was sore sitting on the deck and I moved to try and get comfy,I then noticed still no one in the cairs, I got up walked over put the boots on the floor and said, when your friends come I will move, and yes, ofcourse they never came, I dont know who I was madder at me for being such a numpty or her for being rude.

So after reading this thread I wonder what is the safest way to handle your things when you're going to take a swim? Should you put all your stuff on the ground somewhere to make sure that no one will move it?

You know it's really hard to know what to do. When our boys go up for a swim, one of us goes with them and we hold onto all their stuff - shoes, towels, glasses, KTTW cards. We prefer to sit on the regular chairs off to the side (and maybe at a table) rather than the loungers, and those are often more hard to find than the loungers can be.

I notice that CMs will pick up the used towels, so if you do use a towel and want to keep it for a bit, the neater it's laid the less likely they are to pick it up -- although I don't understand why people can't just put their used towels into the bins when they are done rather than leaving them all over the chairs. I won't move a used towel -- never know what it might've been used for (like the time we were at POFQ and watched a mom clean up her child's puke and then she just tossed it on a chair.... ugh).

Well that explains why I saw the CMs put on pairs of purple medical gloves before they picked up the used towel.

I couldn't figure out why they were treating it like a medical experiment...but I guess after hearing about that, they should.

Thinking back on one cruise I remember a family who had chair covers embroidered with "RESERVED" on them and actually put them on about 5 or 6 loungers in a row. People went nuts when they saw it. The CM's got involved and the people were told that is a big no, no.

Wouldn't it be easier if DCL just installed cubbies near the pool area where you could leave your stuff while you swam if you didn't plan on lounging, but just needed somewhere to put your towel/shoes/etc?

Seems like an easy solution. I wonder why they don't do it - Room issues? It seems it would be safer having guests leave their items in a cubby rather than on loungers. Just my humble opinion!

DCL I hope you are listening. A place to store our belongings would be nice then there would be no reason for stuff to be on a chair unless there was a body in it too.

We have never stayed long at the pool but have alway picked on chair for our stuff. We have never had an issue in 7 cruises. However my grand daughter once lost her KTTW card and the attached lanyard. I suspect that a CM just picked up the towel with the card inside and dumped it in the used towels.

I have heard that a camera or two have walked but for the most part your stuff will be safe just remember that there are always those who will take what they want. Just be aware of you stuff, don't leave it alone for too long at a time, and remember to try to have fun.

I bring a beach bag (with sunscreen, camera, book, hats, etc.). I am usually sitting on the chair with everyone's towels and the bag. I may "wander" away for no more than 5 minutes(to get a beverage or snack or a dip in the pool) but why would we hog 4 chairs when really, all we need is one.....:confused3 :confused3 .

Happy cruisin' everyone!!

Does anyone ever put reserved signs on their lounge chairs on the top deck so they're guaranteed a chair?

More often than not these days the most wanted chairs are the ones in the shade. It's a pet peeve of mine when people put a book or tee shirt on a chair and expect that to hold it for the day. A reserve sign would probably put me over the edge!:rotfl2:

Other then the the incident my dad had.... I have never personally had a problem. But, we've been lucky and never sailed with a really FULL ship. I see no problem with putting stuff on a chair or 2 while you are in the area, swimming or getting food...whatever. It's the people who want to claim the territory for the whole day...and are NEVER there that bother me.

The shows can be interesting, but if you get there early enough, you can find a seat....and they are all good seats. My DD likes the front row, so we get there as early as we can and have never had a problem.

Our first cruise CC was the worst. There just were not enough hammicks and chairs to go around...they have since added alot, and it is much better.

One thing I figured out a few cruises ago: CM's put folded towels on lounge chairs periodically thru the day. So, if I see a nicely folded towel, as far as I know, a nice CM placed it there... and the chair is MINE (as long as I'm sittin' in it that is)

Also, I've read that this is just not considered rude in other cultures. Americans have a hightened sense of ... um, fairness for all (? if that's the right word).

I am sorry to read that lisa, and you may be the victim of the same person(s) as my Son, I do agree no one sholud reserve chairs, but this goes a bit too far, clearly in my instance someone was quick (10>15 mins max he was in the pool) and decided they wanted that chair.

Now that is just plain rude....I can't believe somebody would do that to you (especially on a Disney Cruise!) Wow sorry that happened to you, it can really put on a damper on your day.
