Reserving ADA room at Caribbean, do we also need to specify Preferred location?

Hello,
My family is traveling to WDW in September and one of the rooms we have is an ADA room at the Caribbean as my aunt will be using a ECV while we are there as she has transverse myelitis and cannot walk anymore than a block at a time with her walker. She also can't get into a regular tub/shower situation, she needs a roll in so she can sit and shower since she can't stand independently. In any event, should we also specify preferred location and pay the extra for it? Or will the ADA room be close? Obviously my aunt can go long distances in her ECV, but she is staying with my mother and since they are 73 and we plan on running my mother ragged in the parks we would prefer not to have her walk too far in the hotel to get to the transportation.
Thanks!

The ADA rooms are scattered all over the resort. (Having different locations is actually a requirement of the ADA). It's possible that you may get lucky and get a room in that area because it is an open room when you arrive and no one paid extra for a preferred ADA room. But, its also likely that if no one reserved a Preferred ADA room, that room would be assigned to someone who booked Preferred location regular room.
And, it's just as likely that you could be assigned a room the farthest away from where you want to be.

So, if you want to make sure to get a room in the Preferred Location category, that is what you need to reserve.

Thank you for the info! They went ahead and booked the preferred.

Do you happen to know if all the ADA rooms have roll in showers? I was looking at some pictures and it appeared that maybe some do not?

Thanks again! Everyone here is so helpful!!!pixiedust:

There are rooms that are fully accessible with roll in showers and other rooms that have a regular tub with grab bars and a place to sit to help get in.
There are pictures of the different types in a post on page one of the disABILITIES FAQs thread.

They would need to specify that they need a roll in shower (or, it should say that on the confirmation).
