Hi, I want to know if we have some discount when we make reservation to DVC resorts with cash. ( In case we don't have enough points and want to add days to our vacation etc)

We are new members and I can't find the answers in all the papers...

Thank you!

Even if there are rooms available for cash, the discount may not be available.

OK, so we can have sometimes a 25% discount. Is it mostly on low season?

And, its only on DVC villas and you have to book through MS. Its not for the inventory you see on the Disney site.

I think the discount is available at all different times, it just really depends.

There are a certain number of discounted rooms available at each resort at any given time. There's nothing published that says how many. There are also no published blackout dates, but that doesn't mean that there aren't certain dates for which no discounted villas are offered. The only way to find out is to call MS and ask.

If there are no discounted villas available when you call, there's no way to know if it's because others beat you to them, or if there weren't ever any offered for that date in the first place.

The first priority is for DVC villas in the Member inventory to be available using DVC points. When MS knows that there are (or will be based on past history) villas available at certain times of the year, they can make those available with the 25% DVC discount.

As noted, this is not always available. In the past, weekend nights were often available - some even 11 months ahead. At other times, the discounted villas would not be available until 6 or 7 months (if at all).

The real goal is to be as close to 100% occupancy as possible, but using points is always the preferred way to accomplish that. MS can make rack rate cash reservations for members for many nights since they do have access to the same inventory as DRC from points used by members for non-DVC reservation options (cruise, Disney Collection, Concierge Collection, Adventurers Collection). In most cases, the 25% has to come from Member inventory that would otherwise go unused.

I've done it a couple of times in the past for a weekend night at OKW 1 bedroom. At the time (6 or 7 years ago), it was 48 points per night and the cash rate was around $325. So I thought that was worth it to save the points rather than borrow. It was seemless, the cash night & points nights were treated as one reservation.

We have ressies for the BWV 6/26-7/1/11 (1 BR on points). So I could call MS and ask if the room is available for 6/25 and get the 25% cash discount? I am sure that it would not be available due to the time of the year but you never know.pirate:

Dixie Landings 9/98 Honeymoon
All Star 9/99
BWV 11/04
SSR (1st Time Home) 11/05
BCV 11/06
WLV 3/08
BWV 6/10
BWV 6/11

It sure can't hurt to ask!

It's not so seamless anymore. It's different reservations and you may have to check out and check in again.
