is this a dumb question? Can you make reservations if you do not have the dining plan. this is the first time we are going and not using the dining plan. Do we still need to call 180 days ahead?

No questions are dumb, Yes you still make reservations(ADR) if you are not on the dining plan and as of this month you can make your ADR's 90 days before your trip.

The restaurant reservations don't hinge on those with the dining plan, as it's open to everyone. People staying offsite (or live locally to WDW) can make a dining reservation at any time, as well.

The 180 day advance reservations recently changed, and as the previous poster stated, the reservations are now 90 days in advance. If you're staying at a Disney resort, the most convenient option is to call 90 days before your check in date, then make your dining reservations for the rest of your stay (up to 10 more days). It's a nice perk for Disney resort guests.

thanks for the info but why was it changed to 90 days? What about a charater dinner, how many days for ADR

No clue about the reasoning behind ANY of Disney's decisions lately. We just get the info, read it, and accept it. Heh. ;)

The ADRs for character meals will be the same as non-character meals. 90 days.

I think Chef Mickey's and Cinderella Castle meals are still at 180 days ADR. I called last week for Chef Mickeys and they said they were booking into mid-June. Needless to say I didn't get a ressie for the date/time in April I was looking for. If you want either of these places I would call 180 days out.

Either by extraordinary luck or great timing we got into Crystal Palace on a Sunday evening in June during the parade and fireworks- with no reservation. The wait was however long it took me to run from the front of the park with a stroller and a five year old in the parade-crowd- my husband was walking into sit down as I ran up. Perfect timing!

But, I would not suggest trying this.
