I have limited experience with DVC and booking reservations

but it seems like, it is actually more difficult, to book at a DVC Resort in low season, like SEPT 1-DEC 14 PERiod, except for Thanksgivign and month of of January, than say the summer season.

just the opposit of my expericnce with cash reservations at DISNEY NON DVC RESORTS

when you are trying to make a reservation, say 5 months out

is this true, or just my brief experiece with DVC reservation process

Yes, that is very true.

Its also one of the reasons that I laugh when someone says "I bought VB, they had a great deal and since I only travel to WDW in the off season, the seven month window won't be a problem"

I always get a chuckle out of that.

The off seasons are the only time you will have a problem.

Most of the period you mention requires eleven month booking and may reservations require day by day booking. The first two weeks of December and during the Food and Wine festival are low point seasons and are also the hardest of the year to book.

I disagree. There are certain times that are difficult and they fall into both Prime and non-Prime periods. Easter Week and Christmas Week are tough, especially the days around NYE. Thanksgiving can also be difficult.

Early December has become popular and tough to book because people want to see the decorations and it is a time when many on-line groups hold meetings at WDW.

The Food & Wine Festival is also gaining in popularity and making the Epcot resorts tough to book. I don't think OKW and VWL see an excessive demand at this time.

September and January are low points and pretty easy to book.

If you allow the wait list to work, I think it is possible to get most of what you want with a 7-month window. The one exception would be the Grand Villas. However, this may even become possible once SSR is completed.

richyams

if you are attracted to OKW GV's more than ever because of SSR&S GV, are so dramatically higher in poirtn requirement

and if you would only want the OKW GV in SEPTEMBER AND OCTOVER, and early december, very low point season

would you advise me to get 225 OKW POINTS, because 11 month window, very important for OKW GRAND VILLAS???

Hi KANSAS,
I'm not Rich but I think you are correct in your thinking. If the Grand Villas at OKW are what interests you - then it would be a good idea to buy at OKW for that 11 month window. They can be tough to get. They are a real bargain. Have you stayed at OKW yet?

hulagirl

i really like BCV more than OKW
because the 180 points for a grand villa, for sunday-thursday nights is very very attractive

especially when you compare with SSR&S GRAND VILLA point requirement for same time period and days of the week

:D I agree. I own at BWV. Take a look at what they want for one of those GV!!!!

Kansas, if you are planning to make the majority of your trips in an OKW GV (or any GV), I would purchase your points at that resort.

If you expect to make occasional GV trips but really want to spend the majority of your trips at BCV, I'd purchase at BCV.

PAM OKW

tHE VAST MAJORITY OF MY TRIPS, would be bCV not NOT OKW

do you feel that OKW GRAND VILLAS could be obtained
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, SEPTEMBER and EARLY DECEMBER, with 7 month window,

sometimes in my life, not everytime, but sometime.?

I mean 7 month window, not 6 1/2 months.

should i be worried about all the SSR&S PEOPLE competing against me for OKW GRAND VILLAS at 7 month window, because
their SSR&S GRAND VILLAS cost so many more points.??

SSR&S will bring alot more DVC members, into DVC RESORT booking process.

I imagine that sometime you would be able to book them. Of course, nothing is guaranteed.

It's even possible to arrange a trade with another member to use their OKW points for your BCV points.

It wouldn't seem to make sense to buy at OKW only because someday you'll want a GV. You'll have 40 years of waiting until the 7 month mark to book BCV against 2-5 years of wanting a GV at OKW. All the new SSR owners will also be part of the pool booking BCV at 7 months.

There is also always the chance that the 7 month window can go away. It can be reduced to as little as a 1 month home priority.

It depends on how often you want want a GV at OKW and what and when you would want at BCV. Remember that OKW will be cheaper to buy and yearly fees. So if you want say a GV every 5th year and want to go at high times, here's the scenario you'd follow. Say you wanted BCV early December in a 1 BR. You'd book OKW at 11 months out for the time you want then when the 7 month window opens up, you'd book that if available. You'd have to decide whether to book day by day or wait and book the entire time at once. What's best partly depends on your use year and how many points you have lying around, ie, do you have enough to book all for OKW and all but the last day for BCV before you cancel OKW. If not, you have to make choices and take risks including the chances of moving from one resort to another midstay. Remember you could also try for any of the other DVC resorts in this manner but it works best for on site options.

PAM OKW

are you serious about one month window? or just trying to ruin my week, month and year?

if you are serious, people that bough at HH AND VB, just to use at 7 month window at ORlando DVC REsorts, could get burned??

Kansas, in order to change the time to shorter than 7 months, they'd have to change the legal paperwork. Doeable but much more difficult than some of the other issues discussed. I wouldn't worry about that option, I'd expect the non home resort option to stay at 7 months. It used to be 10 months but they changed it before there were any resorts other than OKW so it had no real effect.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. People would have Home Resort priority for 1 month. After that, anyone could book at any resort. It would make people who own non-WDW resorts who want to book at WDW happier. ;)

I don't have a lot of experience like some, but I do know this:

In early July we called to make reservations for 8 days, Sept 16 thru 24.

We had a choice between OKW and BCV. Both were available for our entire stay.

Since we have never stayed at either, we chose half and half. We had no problem whatsoever!

Go figure.

Sometimes I get scared reading these boards. You sometimes have to see for yourself.

I think what would make it really dificult is when you absolutely have to have a specific room in a specific resort for a specific time period. But if youre flexible you shoul be OK.
