Reservations for how many?

We are planning a trip to Disney in December. We are currently a family of four, but may have foster children placed with us later this year. We'll be staying in a family suite at AoA, so I figure it should be easy to add a couple more to that reservation, but I'm not sure what to do about dining. Should we make reservations for six or four?

If we make reservations for 6, and then it ends up being just the 4 of us, will that be held against us in some way? Is reserving extra seats frowned upon? Can reservations be downsized later?

Make the reservation for 6. It is much easier to drop people from the reservation then to add them later. Once you know for sure, you could then drop the reservation to 4 (either online or by calling). You won't be penalized even if the reservation says 6 and only 4 show up. We're a family of 4 and only 2 of us showed up for a reservation last year and it wasn't an issue.

I would make your ADRs for 6. As long as someone shows up for the ADRs, you will not get charged a fee for those who don't. It would be easier to show up with less than to try to adjust from 4 to 6 later.

Make them for 6. If you only need 4 you won't be penalized and then you won't be stressed last minute if you do get a placement.
