The fartherest out you can make DVC reservations is 11 months and point charts for 2011 want be released until next year.

I realize you can only make reservations 11/7 months ahead of time. What I'm doing now is early "shopping:" learning prices, how many points needed, who actually has that many points or WILL have that many points to use, etc.

I have gotten a couple of really helpful e-mails, so I'm already benefitting from the wisdom and good hearts of a couple board posters!!! Heartfelt blessings and thank-yous to the two folks who have already given us so much useful info!!!!!! God bless you!!!

The scoop:

We are looking for somewhere between 11-14 days in July of 2011. The goal would be at Contemporary or Bay Lake, with second choices being one of the other two monorail-accessible resorts. Room view is not really all that important to us. Unless One-BR prices drop drastically, we are probably looking at a studio (two adults, one kid, one infant) at the time. I haven't really researched Disney Dining Plans yet, but would be open to hearing about those, too!

We will be purchasing 10-day park hoppers (plus water parks) by early next year. The range of days listed exists because we are unsure yet (and it will probably depend on prices of everything) whether or not we'll add Sea World and/or Universal Studios to the trip (or for that matter how long/expensive it would be to travel from the Disney hotel to those parks). So it'll probably be somewhere between 11-14 days, give or take one day either way if needed.

So yes, I realize this is waaaaaaaaay ahead of time, but it gives us (and suitors) lots of time to test the waters! For starters, at Bay Lake, it seems we need somewhere between 215-274 points, give or take a few. That's the first example I've actually taken the time to calculate (providing I did it correctly! LOL). We're still learning good prices/bad prices/average prices at this point, so feel free to post anything you'd like!

All posts welcome! We'll be checking other boards, too!

I was told points charged don't change - was that incorrect?
It seems the DVC club would be CONSTANTLY becoming more and more expensive if they can up the points charge every year.......

Yes points need per night can change from one year to the next. Take a look at the 2009 and 2010 chart and you can see that there is an increase in 2010

That is discouraging.

One of the selling points at my DVC presentation was the fact that while dues may go up, the number of points required would be the same. I specifically asked this question, and then reworded this question, to make sure the club would not amount to a permanent escalating cost with de-escalating benefits.

There seems little benefit to BUYING into the club if that is the case - because in five years your 5-day vacation might become a 2-day vacation, while your annual fees go up.

The total points can not change but the points for certain seasons can but if they add a couple points to one season they have to lower them in another to were it balances out. This is why they told you the points won't change. So it may cost you more during a certain week next year then it would this year but would be less during another week. One reason for this is Easter and Thanksgiving are never on the same day from year to year. I hope this helps.

Ah!

That explains a lot. Wheh!

Thankfully, it is unlikely we'd ever take the holiday trips. LOL

Also, I have seen folks offer and/or request Dining Plans and Deluxe Dining plans - can this be done to a Non-DVC member who rents, and what are the prices?

Thanks!

Yes Non DVC can get the dining plan you just pay for it in full when you check in. The regular dining plan is currently 39.99 per adult per day and 10.99 for kids 3-9 per day.
