Reservation & waitlist question from newbie

Hi all,
Apologizes if this has been asked before.
Just got into Disney's system 2 hours ago - YEAH! My question is - I am currently on a wait list for BCV and BWV for Aug. Can I put a reservation through for OKW and should the wait list come through cancel and go for that one prior to departing. Would I get penalized? Are you even able to be on a wait list and still make a reservation for a resort and should your preferred one (wait list) become available - make a switch? Also, what are your experiences with the wait list? Disney has no way of checking if the wait list is long/short since it is all done by computer. I just don't want to wait for wait list and lose out on OKW in case my wait list choice is unsuccessful. Hope this makes sense!

Congratulations on being in the system. Many members have a lot of luck with the waitlist but many of those reservations are made at 7 months, not two like your's. But you never know unless you try. Good luck.

You definitley should make a reservation at OKW if there is availability and go on a waitlist for the other resorts. This is the most common method that members use. That way even if your waitlist doesn't come through, you have the original in place. There is no penalty to do it.

Remember that the waitlist expires at 30 days. You need to call and renew it to keep it going up to 7 days prior to check in.

After you make your OKW ressie, you can be on the waitlist for both BCV and BWV. Then if either one comes available, you can decide if you want to change your ressie.

Also, when you go on to the waitlist, you have two different options. MS can notify you by phone if your waitlist comes available, you then have 24 hours to respond back. Or the second option, if your waitlist comes available, MS can just change your ressie and send you a new confirmation in the mail.

I always choose the first option of being notified by phone.

Yes, you can go on the waitlist for both a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom at the same time. Then you can accept whichever one comes through first. You only have to have points when you make the reservation. No points are committed until a reservation is made.

To do this, you should ask MS to call you when the waitlist comes through (rather than just auto book and mail you a confirmation).

If you are going late in August, I think you have a reasonable chance of getting a waitlist. You never know, but if it doesn't come through, you will still have a wonderful stay at OKW.
