I just recently closed on a 175 pt SSR contract that I am thrilled about. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: I was aware that I was getting 175 08 pts. But wahen I called to check with member services I found out there is also 152 07 pts which are in" reservation status".Mu Uy is Dec. so I only have till the end of the month to use them and unfortunately I can't. Can they be used for an Intervar Internationale exchange, Does anyone no if this is possible? tIA

Unfortunately, you won't be able to use them at all. You are in the last four months of your use year and you can't make any reservations outside of DVC resorts in the last four months of the use year. Since Disney has to pay for your non-DVC reservation, they need a little time to sell that reservation to pay the other company.

Since they are reservation points, you can't use them for DVC reservations, either.

Reservation points are points that were originally committed to a non-DVC destination (Disney Cruise, Interval exchange, Disneyland resort stay, etc.) Once points have been committed to a use outside of DVC, you cannot turn around and use them within DVC even if you cancel more than 31 days in advance.

Disneyland resort stays are exempt from the "rule of 4" which states that most non-DVC stays must be booked more than 4 months before the end of you Use Year.

Non-DVC destinations tend to be a poor value so you wouldn't be able to get much in return to begin with. It costs 29 points per weeknight to book the Grand Californian during most of November. So, if you could get $5-6 per point in a rental, someone else would be able to get a room at the GC for only about $150 per night. That's pretty good.

Of course that's assuming you can find someone to use the points AND there is actually availability left on such short notice. From Thanksgiving forward I'm sure they are booked, so you've only got a couple weeks left where there is even an outside shot.

Although this may not help you, I appreciate your question. Who knew?:confused3

Didnt see that one coming, but a cautionary tale for all those looking at resale with points. You'd think they would have to disclose the fact that these were "reservation points" and not banked or borrowed points.

All said, I know you are excited to be done with the process and now you are a member!:thumbsup2

Welcome Home!

thank you all for your responses. I am still so happy to finally be a DVC owner. I should of bought so many years ago when my children were young, but I will enjoy them with my grandchildren.I just hate to see "disney points g to waste. I would rather give them away then see that happen. Anyway I look forward to my first trip 'home'

It sounds like while the reservation points were not disclosed, they were also "extras" that the OP didn't know about. The OP states she got the 175 2008 points she was expecting but learned there were 2007 points still in play. It's likely the seller didn't mention them because they anticipated the points would have expired before the sale occurred?

In any case, congrats mickey's girl 52 on your purchase!!

As another poster mentioned these points could possible be used at DL since you can make reservations there during the last 4 months of your UY. You might find someone on the rent/trade board. My suggestion would be to call MS and see if there is any availability at the DL resorts during the rest of the month. Many CA people don't make long term plans to visit DL so if the stars aligned you might find someone to use those "bonus" points. If I had an ounce of spare time b4 Dec. I'd be all for it! ;) :santa:

I'm not sure that the "rule of 4" would still apply since they are already in reservation status. DVC got control of the points when the original reservation was made.

Good point, Debbie. I hadn't thought of that.

"Reservation Points" may be used during the last 4 months of the Use Year since they have already been committed to that use. They still can't be banked and will expire at the end of the current Use Year.
Even though they are not the best value for using DVC points, if you can rent a non-DVC reservation before they expire they will have some value (even if you rent them at $4 per point). They can be used at WDW moderate and Deluxe resorts as well as at DL resorts.

Good luck!

I also believe that the WDW resorts will require a $95 booking fee to use those points. The DL resorts do not.

Technically you are buying the contract. While DVC pays more attention than most, you really have little recourse if the points accounting is off, esp once you've closed. I now of people who bought regular timeshares and the week for the next year was used out from under them by depositing with an exchange company.
