Dh and I thinking of buying a TT with popouts just for use @ wdw. How hard is it to get campsites there? Does it book up fast? It's either this or the vacation club so we don't know what to do. Are the Comfort Stations nice? Just wondering.... :listen:

Booking stays can be easy or hard depending on time of year you want and how early before your stay you try to book.

The comfort stations are very clean and have lots of hot water.

I don't know how hard it is to get a reservation, because my family goes with my parents (they own the camper!! :) ). I do know, however, that the comfort stations are very clean (almost cleaner than at home!!, well, maybe not, but you get the idea).

If you are new to camping, you might consider trying it locally by renting a trailer. It would be a shame to make this kind of investment only to find out that you don't like it. It is a different lifestyle, not for everyone. Also keep in mind that owning a TT is like having a second home with all the problems that can go along with it. I have a leak in a water tank I am dealing with now, and last year there was a leak in the roof. In many ways, the systems take more of a beating since, in my case, I am moving my "house" down the road 900 miles when I go to Disney - it can take it's toll on plumbing and heating systems.

I also agree that you want to consider all the costs. Don't forget that you need an appropriate tow vehicle, a place to store your camper, and insurance. We also have a pop-up and tow it 1,200 miles to WDW each year. We have the wheel bearings repacked every trip (recommended every 2,000 miles) and need to keep an eye on the tires (proper air pressure and get new ones every three years ... blow-outs on the interstate are not fun!).

To address your question about making a reservation ... As early as you think you might be going is not too soon to book. Many Florida residents will camp on the weekends, so weekends (especially for basic sites - water/elec - 2000 and 1500) can book up before the weekdays do; thus, making it hard to book full weeks at the last minute. To book a site-only reservation, you just phone WDW reservations and make a room-only reservation ... only one nite's deposit is required and then you have up to 5 days before your reservation to cancel. Should a discount code become available, you just call them back and have the code applied. If you are booking WAY in advance, they may not be able to tell you the exact cost, but it will be close (e.g. booking for Spring 2007 will be at the 2006 rates and then they will notify you of the correct amount when the 2007 rates are established).

We have been camping at WDW many, many years and actually prefer it to staying in a hotel.

Again, camping is not for everyone - but Ft. Wilderness is definitely the nicest campground I have ever stayed at.

Thanks for all the info. I've spent my whole life camping in tents, then as my parents made more $$$ we moved up to camper status (trailer). I love it. We live in Alabama and as a child I camped on the weekends with my parents. We stayed at campsites that had SCARY showers. We are just thinking of getting a pop-up AND joining DVC at low amount of points to have the best of both worlds. Thanks for the imput!!!Any more tips would be greatly appreciated as I research this further.. :surfweb:
