Reservation Questions

Disneyland veteran here who makes annual trips to WDW, currently on day one of my first trip since reservation system was created. Trying to compare it to Disneyland. If I wake up in the morning and decide I want to go to Epcot instead of Animal Kingdom and AK is available, can I cancel my Epcot reservation and make a new one at AK? Or do I have to do it at least the day before? And if I have a reservation and I just don’t show up do I lose a day of my ticket? Is there any other penalty?

If there is park reservation availability the day-of, you can cancel and change without any issue. You won't lose the day on your ticket unless you use it or it expires. Having a park reservation and not entering should not cost you a day on your ticket.
