reservation question

Hi. I am not a DVC member, just a wanna be. We just stayed at OKW and loved it. I tried the Disney site for checking prices for the same time in October for next year. I was surprised and confused to find that all villa type properties don't have availability for that time. I was thinking that vacation club members can't make reservations until 11 months out so there should still show availability. Then I thought maybe the properties hold most everything for members. Am I right? We're not quite ready to become members, but once you stay in a villa, a regular hotel room just doesn't cut it. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks !!

Disney retains 2-4% of each DVC resort and that number of rooms is often used as a reserve during rehabilitation. There should be little inventory at any DVC resort earlier than 11 months ahead. DVC members cannot make reservations until 11 months prior.

Because DVC members also use their points for other, non-DVC, options there are often rooms available for cash reservations. In addition, 60 days before any given date- any rooms not reserved by members are also released for cash reservations.

I agree about finding it difficult to go back to a regular room after experiencing a DVC villa.

Enjoy!

OKW is for members only. To confuse you more there is a small percentage of units availabe for the public like Doc said less than 4% but I don't believe they will be available this early, members get first shot at OKW 11 months out. As a memeber I don't like this 4 % feature. but we have to live with it. There are plenty of nice condo like units available around the Orlando area that are very nice and cost a lot less then the $450 and up that OKW costs. If you go a lot to WDW you might want to look into becoming a member.

Here is a link to mousesavers to give you an idea of rates
http://www.mousesavers.com/roomrates2004.html

It sounds like if you are heading back next year you are probably battling the DVC urge. You will see the rates are very high compared to what it costs for points for those nights. If the bug has hit you and you think you will be going regularly, I would start looking into DVC before you spend many dollars and than buy in and kick yourself for not doing it sooner.

tarheel: If you are going to be going at least once per year and want to stay in DVC type accomodations, you should look into purchasing. Check out the site sponsor and some other resellers for some OKW resales.

Thanks for the replies. Everyone is so nice. I would love to be a DVc member. Maybe someday my DH will see the light.

Calculate how much your next trip (the hotel portion) will cost and explain how it would be so much better to use that money for a down payment instead. Plus you still get the vacation y using your points.

Well, if I may be so bold, let US help YOU.

What type of room did you stay in at OKW? How many nights? And, if you're interested in sharing, what did you pay?

Buying into DVC isn't about being part of some club (well, OK, there is some element of that), but it's about saving money!!! If you paid rack-rates, or even mildly discounted rates, for a room at OKW, chances are could have already made a big step toward DVC ownership and another 40-50 years worth of trips at a fraction of the cost.

I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say that we hate to see you make the same mistake twice...
