Reservation Question- borrowed points and moving dates?

Hi, newbie here! Just closed on my first resale contract. The story goes like this. I am wanting to schedule Aulani at 7 months here in August for a March trip. I will need to borrow points from 2024 to make this happen because I need a one bedroom and my contract is a bit stripped. No big deal, my husband is deploying likely and we can survive on 120 points for 2024 without too much issue, this was the contract we wanted. My situation is this. We are *likely* relocating to San Antonio here in the upcoming months and our original trip date was the end of March, but now our daughter's spring break will be two weeks earlier with the move. How do I book this? Can I reserve for the 13th-16th dates (the earlier dates) and then move them without penalty if we go back to our original end of March dates? Do I just have to book it and hope all works out? I just know that there are restrictions with the borrowed points and I don't want to mess myself up with a cancellation that would negate those points. I hope this makes sense and that you seasoned vets can help me choose what will be best in this situation!

As long as the dates you are booking when modifying are still in the same UY of the original trip then you are fine.

Thst two week difference in March won’t matter since it would all be in the same UY.

You don’t mention which one you have, but since both trips are in March, they have ti happening in the same UY for you.

Ok this helps, thanks! I thought you could move reservations, but wanted to be sure before I did anything dumb. I think we will find out sooner rather than later, but I wanted to check before I book on August 13th. My use year is October. :)

Then you won’t have any issues, other than there still being available dates!

Not much help to provide but want to say congratulations on the contract and good luck to your husband on his deployment.

Surprised that no one has mentioned availability. I don't track Aulani habitually, but my point is that you don't simply move a DVC reservation as you do in the conventional hotel sense. You cancel one and make a new one and hope your dates are available. If you have enough points, of course you can book before you cancel assuring you have something even if your dates aren't available.

Maybe you know all this, but I thought it was worth noting on case you didn't.

^ Agree the issue may be availability. Changing the dates of a reservation can be easily done mechanically via use of the modification section of the DVC website or by contacting MS. However, you cannot possibily change to new dates if, for those dates, the desired rooms are already filled at the time you attempt the modification. You can thus reserve mid-March if available at 7-months out and then attempt to modify your reservation thereafter to change to the end of March only if those end of March dates are still available when you attempt the change. Doing so may be a serious issue since "end of March 2024" includes Easter (March 31) and the week before and of Easter at Aulani can be difficult to get for that time, particularly if not attempting to reserve the applicable time until after the 7-month window has already passed.

You no longer have to cancel one to book a new one. You can use the Modify feature as drusba explains above to search for the new dates (or different resort, whatever) and then book, as long as what you want is available. If what you want is not available, you can keep what you have (or cancel it if it no longer works for you).
