i just received the paperwork for our reservation and it doesn't specificallly list out the room requirements for medical needs which i'd discussed with the cm (e.g., no tub, 1st floor, etc.). i thought they used to put those on the paperwork, but it's been awhile since we stayed onsite. the cm said i didn't need to talk to special requests, that she'd put it all in and they'd call me if they needed to--does that sounds right? should i call back?

If it were me, I'd call back to verify everything. Not only will you make sure everything is right but it will also give you peace of mind.

You can try calling Special (Medical) Reservations at 407-939-7807 and have your confirmation number available. Unless you are staying at DVC on points, in which case you would call Member Services. In either situation you should be able to check exactly what you are getting. Often the confirmation will only state "Accessible Room Guaranteed" without going into detail.

you are so right. i called.

she told me, as cheshire figment said, they don't list all the requests on the paperwork. (they didn't even list "Accessible Room Guaranteed.") but, indeed, they did have them all. whew!

the only disappointing this was that i was told they will not guaranty first floor, even though i'd be stuck if the elevators become inoperable in an emergency. the odds of an emergency are probably pretty slim, so i'm going to risk it. at least it's in there as a preference.

thanks everyone.

DVC used to not use Special Reservations; they took care of their own scheduling. The last year or so they have used Special Reservations, so you can call Special Reservations for all reservations.

They used to put "Accessible Room Guaranteed" on the reservations, but they have not actually printed that information on the confirmation sheet for about a year.

Just like the OP found, our confirmations for the past year have not had the information listed at all. For each of the last few trips we have made, I've called several times to make sure the information is still there. The CMs have explained it is there safely on the computer, but they are not to print it out on the confirmation sheets. From what I can understand, it is something to do with the Special Reservations system actually being a separate computer system than the 'regular' system that prints out the confirmation slips.

I have also talked with supervisors to express how distressing it is to people that the information is no longer listed. They have basically said that we can call any time we want to check in it and that the information will be there, just not where we can see it. It does make me feel very uncomfortable not to have the information in writing, but either the CMs I've talked to don't get that or can't really say anything more.

yep. you hit the nail on the head--i really wish i had it in writing. thanks for your efforts to communicate this with wdw.

I'd also prefer to see things in writing that I've requested for medical reasons. I think people that just have a preference for room/location that isn't a medical need would also like to have their preference listed just so we know that our requests have been noted. Perhaps, except for medical needs, people assume that if it's in writing it's guaranteed and there were problems with that. I can picture angry people showing their confirmation to front-desk CM's and demanding the building they requested, etc. that they have "in writing". Rarely have I stayed at a resort though where my needs weren't met. I just remember reading about the family who booked the accessible Grand Villa at OKW and it wasn't available when they got there so I'm like Sue and always call back to make sure everything is noted as once you get to the resort it could be too late. As to using an elevator they are quite spacious and usually not busy. If you're on an upper floor it's a bit quieter too. I guess they must have an evacuation plan as required by law for anyone who cannot use the stairs in the event of an emergency.---Kathy
