Reservation merging question

I'm going to break this down as the situation is a little complicated:

• I want to arrive to Disney World one full day before my party meets me, as they'll be driving down from northern Florida.
• I'll be flying into Orlando International and using Magical Express to get to my resort.
• I want to make my own reservation for the first night, they are Disney Passholders, in addition to Florida residents; therefore, I can't check in under a reservation they make, even if I pay for the first night, and the first day of park tickets due to them using Passholder / Resident rates.
• I'd like to be able to not have to check out of my room the next day. So, is it possible to then have the room I checked into, merge / carry over to their reservation?

No. They are still separate reservations made by different guests. You would have to ask at the front desk if your friends' reservation can be assigned to the same room as yours, and that's only a request, it can't be guaranteed. Assuming you booked the same resort and the same room category, it may be possible, but it may not happen, especially considering the length of the second reservation.

If you're staying one night and the second reservation is a week, then they'd have to free up that room for the next week in order for you to remain in it. As they are separate reservations and were not even made by the same guest, you won't be able to try to arrange that until you are there. Not saying that can't be done, and it won't hurt to ask, but there isn't a way to guarantee it. There may also be complications considering the second reservation is not yours.

The length of the second reservation will just be two additional nights. I'll definitely have the head person in charge of the party arriving next day to ask.

That is certainly a complication. I'm thinking that it might be easier for me to just make my reservation, check out of my room next day, have them hold my luggage for me while I'm off at the parks, then join my party back at the resort at a set time, and check in with them. It seems that even if asked about ahead of time may not be possible anyway due to the circumstances of them being Florida residents and pass holders, me being non. Thanks for the help

I was just going to post the same thing!

Rooms are assigned early in the morning, so you have to talk to them about this the day you arrive. If you wait until the rest of your party arrives on Day 2 that room may already have been assigned to another reservation. Not saying it can't be done, anything is possible, but I would be fully prepared to have to switch rooms. In any event, enjoy your trip!
