How may I find out about the availability of room types for my desired travel dates if I am not yet a DVC member? We have a trip planned for July 14-21. It seems to me that if we're going to buy in to DVC, better to go ahead and do it now and use this years points for that trip if possible. Since I'm not yet a member, I assume that I'm not to call Member Services-- so whom should I call? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not positive on the answer, but I am going to use my logic here. Calling CRO will do you no good for assessing availability of member inventory rooms. You can't call MS because you need a member number. I suggest that you call your DVC guide as they can answer your questions by consulting with MS. If you do not have a guide and plan to buy direct from Disney, you should get a guide. If you plan to buy resale, I think you will potentially have trouble completing the transaction in time. Remember, also, that points are allocated on a use year rather than calendar year basis.

That's a tough one. Are you in the process of purchasing now? Are you doing a resale or buying direct from Disney? Which resort? All of these will make a difference. If you are in the process of buying now from Disney, as soon as your papers are signed, you can call for a ressie. If you are purchasing a resale, it will take about a month to get closed etc. before you could call.

In either case, you are getting kind of late for a busy summer time ressie. Most of the resorts would have been booked at the 11 and 7 month booking windows. When it gets down to the last 60 days, they can start booking reservations outside of the DVC system (central reservations), so that too will cut into availability. I would suggest talking to your sales guide asap.

Thanks for the advice-- I will contact my guide for assistance with this. We are primarily (but not excusively) looking at purchase through Disney at BCV-- Epcot proximity, Stormalong Bay, and Beaches and Cream are all enticing factors.

As you all suggest, I expect availability might be an issue at this late date. Regardless, it won't make or break our decision-- just wanted to consider all our options.

I remember that when we bought recently, I made our ressies a few days after we'd paid the deposit. I remember that we hadn't returned any paperwork, hadn't been approved for the loan, and yet I called MS and there we were-all set!

jmhillrph - you're in the same position I was in when we bought DVC last year. We already had a trip planned and said if we're going to buy DVC, we might as well now, IF we could get ressies. Well, I called my guide and told them this, and she put me on hold, found some availability (I don't know how) and made the ressie for me right then and there. I had to call back the next day, when my membership number was processed, but I was all set. I'd suggest you call, it worked for me!!!!

Really, you can't. You would have to get a member to call and ask.

If you are buying from Disney, they can usually get you what you want if you ask while signing.

For your first reservation, especially under these circumstances, your guide and the rest of the DVC staff are often able to work miracles (especially if it means a sale).
