We are planning a trip with some members in disney hotels, and some in non-disney hotels.

I recall there was something in Disneyworld, I don't remember exactly, but basically if you stayed at a hotel for 5 days, you could make dining reservations for all five days as soon as you were allowed to make the first day reservation. Thus getting the jump on 4 days earlier than anyone else could.

Is that the same for Disneyland? Should the in-hotel guests handle reservations for us, or does it not matter in Disneyland?

You have to make DL dining reservations one day at a time. It's not like WDW at all!

Also, you do not have to jump on the reservations at the 60 day mark. You should make them If there is a place you want to eat.
