Reservation Dilemma - what to do!?!

We made reservations for a Spring Break trip back in September. Paid in full for four nights at BWI with 5 day ParkHopper tickets. We have our ADR's and our magic bands have been ordered (not received yet, obviously as this a a trip in April). All is done and paid for and all we are waiting for is our February date for making FP+ selections. Yay!

Here is the dilemma ... they are now offering a 30% discount on room during the time frame of our visit. I explored online and actually was able to select a room and ticket package in the online system at a savings of more than $800 ... obviously didn't "checkout" but the room was "in my cart" and ready for the next step. The bottom line is the room was available. I called Disney and asked if I could modify my reservation to take advantage of the discount. Yes, and the (very nice) cast member did some checking and ... oops ... no rooms were available for that discount! Nor were there any other rooms available at BC or YC. Apparently there are rooms available for new reservations but not existing ones!?!

Do I cancel the current reservation (we are more than 45 days out) or do I leave well enough alone? What would happen to our ADR's etc. if we were to cancel ... do we start all over again? I am tempted to leave it alone ... but $800 would take care of a lot of our food budget! I just don't want to make more problems ... it is all paid for already so it is not new money that has to go out the door.

Any advice? :confused3

I don't think your ADRs will be effected. I had rooms at the BWI booked and then found a BWV on Orbitz that was less expensive with the additional 15%.

I booked the Orbitz room (same dates) and linked it to MDE. Once that was done I called Disney and had them cancel and refund the BWI room. (I had 2 hotel reservations, same dates, at one time with no issues on MDE) My refund showed up about 2 weeks later on my CC. I did have to pay the Orbitz up front and had the few weeks to wait until the Disney refund came through.

I would say save the money! :thumbsup2

I did something like this in 2013. I had booked and almost paid for in full an AKL package with ADR's done.

When the discounts came out I could not get a discount for the AKL room, but could switch to the Poly with a new reservation. The money I paid was transferred from our old reservation to the new one and all of my ADR's moved as well. We had no problems with this at all.

I would call back and see if you can do this and keep trying until you get a great CM. $800.00 is a lot of money to save and could go along way towards your budget. Try it :)

I called in 2012 and tried to add Free Dining to my reservation. When two different CMs told me there was no availability, I canceled my existing reservation and rebooked a new one online. The refund took a few days and I did have to make a $200 deposit for the new reservation. This was before our 180 day mark, though.

You can cancel and rebook as long as it's before 45 days and get a full refund.

So that's what I would do, your ADRs will stay.

Whoo Hoo! Tried calling again and Jackson (my new BFF) was able to find the availability and issue a credit for the savings ... more than $800! Persistence pays off.

Thanks!

Great job! So glad to hear that you kept at it and saved some big money :cheer2:
