We are checking into OKW in one month as an RCI exchange. We are hoping to get a top floor unit in a quiet area without road noise. I understand as exchangers we are low man on the totem pole in regaards to choices of rooms. Would we be better off requesting a top floor in an area away from road noise or would we be better off requesting a top floor in specific units? We will have 5 people over the age of 18 so being near the hospitality area is not an issue. We will also have a car so will not need to be near a bus stop. We are mainly interested in having a nice view of water or a golf course or a pool with quiet for the younger ones to sleep late on the days we don't go to the parks. Thanks for your help.

I think you'll have an excellent chance of getting a top floor room. About 1/3 of the rooms ate top floor, and there are no elevators at OKW (except the 3 newest buildings)...so the request is likely not as popular there as at other resorts.

We were at OKW as an RCI exchange in September. We were on the first floor in building 28 but I don't recall hearing road noise from our room. If we did, it certainly was minimal. We were within easy walking distance to one of the bus stops and it took about 5 minutes to walk up to the main pool and main building.

We didn't request a specific room or even type of room, so I can't speak to that. Just wanted to point out, the noise issue.

Have a great trip.

Top floors are almost all 2 bedrooms. There are only 4 buildings with studios or 1 bedrooms on the 3rd floor.

Wow, only 4 buildings? Then I guess we've been really lucky. We've always requested top floor and always gotten it in about 8 trips to OKW. Sometimes it hasn't been third floor, but as the CM at the front desk would always explain,it was a part of the building that only had two floors. We didn't care as long as no one was over us.

That is wonderful because a 2 bedroom is what we have reserved. We figured the "newly married" need their privacy:goodvibes. We are planning to take the 2nd bedroom and give them the master. We love DDIL and want to make sure her 1st trip is wonderful. :goodvibes

You're right, there are some with 2 stories. I should have said only 5 three story buildings have studios & 1 bedrooms on the 3rd floor (14,18,35,38,64).

Webmaster Doc put together a summary:

Try to find a map of the resort and on it you will see the main roads. You should be able to locate the names of the building areas that are not as close to the road. They will be more quiet. Sorry I don't have the names of the areas. Your view of the golf course or water may be blocked by the trees.

Here's the map!

There are very few units that experience road noise. Most of them are studio portions of 2 bedroom lock off units. All studios/lock off second bedrooms are on the ends of the buildings, and there are plenty of dedicated 2 bedrooms in the center of most buildings. I'm guessing you will have a dedicated, since that is mostly how they book 2 bedroom units. ALL 2 bedroom dedicateds at OKW are in the middle of buildings, so not much chance of road noise. We like the views from most of the Miller's Road buildings and especailly buildings 45 adn 46 down near the canal. We haven't had many bad views, but buildings 28 and 29 are probably the worst we've experienced so far.

We've always gotten our top floor requests at OKW - I think it's because most people don't want to climb the stairs.

I look at it this way, I only have to bring up the luggage once and then down at the end of the trip. As far as the groceries, the philosophy is "if you want to eat, you have to carry a bag up"! Might be a few moans but it works!

Besides, I can use the exercise and the 3rd floor isn't really that bad at all!

I agree, and when you are on the top floor, there is no worry about screaming, jumping running or other extemporaneous activity above you!
