I just called called CRO to see if the Grand Floridian was avail for 1 night-may 14 using either AP, AAA, or standard rate. I called about 2 omnths ago and AAA was avail and i didnt take it then, so i booked Contemporary. When AP rates came out, i called again and they didnt have any rooms, but i got my discount at cont. I called again today to see about any openings, none again at GF. The agent then started to ask about possibly staying at SSR, but i kindly stated i had a reservation already at Cont. She was very kind in stating that next time, instead of hitting the menu for a new res, hit the one for changing an existing res, she said that way they get the correct commission on the room. I just thought all the disney reps got hourly pay, but i guess they get commission on each room they book.

After my call last night, I totally believe they get a commission. The CM was very nice and chatty but even after 9 years of planning she almost had me paying rack rate on a complete package. Then I tried to book just a AAA rate and tickets separately and I got a long lecture on how her package will be much more magical and a better value overall.

Disney res agents do not make commission, but they are held accountable for every package they book. They are taught to always upsell. If given the choice to modify your existing booking(with no deposit on it)or booking a new one, they will book you a new one because they get credit for it.
Unless things have changed in the last few years, they most definitely do not make any commissions.

They get incentives if they sell enough each month - on top of their hourly rate. They are also graded on calls, and get graded on how much they upsell on things.

Look at it from this angle:

If I book thru a travel agent, like Dreams Unlimited or Dream Come True Vacations or Small World, they get roughly a 10% commission.

So on a $2000 trip, that is $200.

Now if I book thru Disney directly, where does that $200 go?

I always assumed that it was for hourly wages, plus incentives and bonuses.

Personally, I would rather give it to the travel agent, as they offer me many more services than just booking the trip.

I've been told that Disney has out sourced some of their reservation counters. Telemarketers out state handle alot of reservations, that why the info sometimes isn't up to par, they don't know and are rude because they are not disney cast members.
