For fun after lunch today( I need to get out more ) I copied the listings on the timeshare page into Excel and did a quick pivot table of the listings by resort. Here are some numbers

RESORT - #of Resales - % of Total#of Resales

OKW - 43 - 37.1%
VB - 21 - 18.1%
BWV - 19 - 16.4%
HHI - 15 - 12.9%
VWL - 13 - 11.2%
BCV - 5 - 4.3%
____________________
Total 116

And though some of these are in pending stage, for those so inclined, a total of 24,707 points can be pursued for $1,709,546.:earseek:
or an average of $69.19 a point

I think I'll track this every month or so just to get a rough look for what resorts sellers are listing and what they're asking.

Okay, adding a bit more then back to work.

Resort - # of points - $total cost – Avg point price

BCV – 820 - $62,610 - $76.35
VWL – 2225 - $158,620 - $71.29
BWV – 4077 - $289,661 - $71.05
OKW – 10470 - $729,540 - $69.68
HHI – 3095 - $210,880 - $68.14
VB – 4020 - $258,235 - $64.24

Now, here's a math problem for someone with time and data:

Are the number of resales on the market at each resort proportional to each resort's share of the DVC program? i.e., if the BCV represent 4.3% of the resales today, is that more, or less, or equal to the BCV portion of DVC?

Would love to know.

PS. gtrist4life - looks like we might be at HH at the same time.

princetonnj,

I just clicked on the link from this forum's sponsor, The Timeshare Store. It's usually at the top of every DVC forum page, first row, second from the left "DVC Resales"

http://www.wdwinfo.com/timeshare/dvclisting.cfm

KelNottAt,
That is an interesting problem you've posed, I'm sure the data's out there somewhere, just have to find it. Also, we may pass each other at HHI, we check in 6-19 and check out 6-23. It's our first DVC resort trip too. 5 Months and counting! :bounce:

Now that is the attitude!

I look forward to the results of your quest.

(and people wonder about worker productivity in this country!)

LOL thanks

Wow! That really cool. I'll be watching for the updates. Have you checked the other DVC resale sites? I love math.....

Why are so many people reselling their DVC properties? And why so low!!! My word! Some of those properties are tempting!

Considering there are over 70,000 members, I don't think it seems like it's that much. But I agree that they are tempting.

As one who's seriously considering selling points, I found this information very interesting. No, we're not selling to get out of DVC (never!)-just considering doing the "Home resort shuffle".

AHAHAH!

I love that! "home resort shuffle"!!!

So from where to where? If I might be so inquisitive!

Simba's Mom,

We are also thinking about doing a home resort shuffle. We have OKW and HHI points. Most of our points are OKW!!! Disney has some OKW for sale and we are thinking about buying them and selling our HHI. Do you think it's worth the money and hassle?? Have you looked into it anymore????

Thanks alot,
Debbie

p.s.----3 days until I'm home for a week!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Zurg,

Not to burst your bubble or get your hopes up, but it may be this weekend before I will have some time to search for the data to complete KelNottAt's problem. If anyone else has the data or access to it, feel free to post.

Working, being a husband, father, and going to school two nights for my MBA, makes finding time to visit these forums tough sometimes.

Still have to visit when I can. Love the info and "company"

interesting.
i can't wait to see your report. i love reports. ;)

btw, i was tracking this data some time last year as well. but then i stopped after a few months. i never got around to analyzing the data though. let me know if you might want some of it.

the number of resale listings has definitely doubled or tripled in the past 12 mos or so. who knows why, maybe it's because of SSR?
anyway, make sure to count the figures from the other resale broker listings as well.

as an aside, i myself just finished doing "the home resort shuffle" heh. great phrase. :)

I saw the comment that the resale points look cheap. At $76
the points at BCV do not IMHO look cheap. If I buy 50 points there will still be transfer fees of upto $500 which is $10 per point making my cost $86 which is more than the $84 that I can buy points from DVC.
Fascinated by the survey.
Great to see that there is a resale market and it is higher than resale prices of normal timeshares.
