Resale VS SSR

We are taking a trip to Disney in Oct. and thinking of looking into DVC because the passholder discount debockle(sp) is aggravating. Anyway, I was thinking about touring SSR but I have been reading this board and it seems to me that more people are planning not to stay there then those who are. So would I be better buying a resale. I saw some info on a resale at the Beach Club Villas but I don't know anything about them. Could I tour them when I go in Oct. ? I would hate to buy one over the other blindly. Can I buy Beach Club Villas through Disney or only as a resale? Thanks.

I'm sure the majority of people who buy at SSR are planning to stay there regularly, I know we are. Over time we will try the other resorts, but having looked at them all I'm prety sure that mostly we would rather be at SSR.

Don't read too much into some of the things that you read on these boards, there are a vocal minority who like to post negatively about SSR. The best thing to do is to keep an open mind and go see for yourself, don't let your opinions be swayed by those of others.

If you like the idea of staying in a hotel for your vacations, then BWV, BCV or VWL will probably suit you best. If you prefer the idea of feeling like you are staying in your own apartment for your vacations then SSR or OKW may be more your thing.

It's a shame that some of the posts on these boards are adversely affecting people's perceptions of SSR before they have even seen it.

You should take the tour at SSR and see for yourself what you think of it. DVC members have extremely varied tastes when it comes to resort preferences, so I'd not go by a few postings. You can find posts about every DVC resort that are not exactly glowing, so I would urge you to see as many resorts firsthand as you can.

You may not be able to see the rooms in the sold out resorts, but you can certainly go over and look around the grounds. As I said, I'd do this and if you see a resort that really interests you, then maybe you can ask someone to let you take a peek into a vacant room.

I agree. Take the SSR tour and decide for yourself.

You CAN buy other resorts from Disney, although you may have to wait a few months for the points to come through. Buying direct would enable you to finance through DVC if necessary.

On the other hand, going the resale route is likely to save you money.

I was one who thought I wouldn't really like SSR. Turned out I love it... you just never know.

Just bought at SSR, and we plan on staying there as much as our points will allow. I would advise touring first, and then make a decison. Every resort has it's positives and negatives.
