Newbie here collecting research..., can someone walk me through the differences/benefits/disadvantages/etc of resale vs. buying direct (besides the huge cost savings of course!)

If resale, where are the best sites for searching?

Thanks! Excited just even about the possibilities of joining! :) :) :)

I suggest that you scan down the page, your questions are discussed here several times a week.

Smart of you to learn the product, a pre-paid hotel room, before you buy.

The biggest difference is with resale you can't use points for cruises and no adventure or concierge collections(they all need ALOT of points). So if you think they maybe something you would want to to resale may not be for you.

We used The Timeshare Store. We really only wanted to use it for WDW maybe in the future DL and Aulani so we decided to save the money and buy resale.

Hope it helped a little.

Given the current situations retail is only reasonable for smaller contracts and resorts not available for a discount. While you lose the chance to trade points at a poor value for cash options (Disney Collection, DCL, Concierge Collection) you give up nothing of value currently and have the potential for saving a lot of money. It may take a couple of months longer and there is slightly more risk resale. The points one gets resale are more variable but can actually be more than buying direct. For VGF and similar and 50 point contracts are about the limit of what's reasonable retail.

Ultimately, all you are guaranteed is booking DVC stays at DVC resorts with both direct points and resale points. Everythink else could change in a minute.

Price and Time - figure it will take months to find the deal and months to close followed by weeks - hopefully not months - before your given access to a rather significant purchase. :mic: If you're doing resale - don't cave - make 'em pay - it will make you feel better in the end. What do you care if they refuse your offer - there's a million points out there to buy.

Me, I've no patience so I buy direct :lmao: then I've an elevated opinion of my self worth

I believe that's an exaggeration of the time and effort involved.

I believe it comes down to, I want the latest resort - direct, I want a specific resort and UY - resale (also less cost). Even at that I believe some one posted somewhere that VGF was already on the resale market.

Not really. We found the contract we wanted this past Thursday...made an offer on Friday at 6:30pm...got response with counter-offer which we agreed to at 10am Saturday (Today!)...Received docs to sign in email 2 hours later... Signed and have them in a priority envelope ready to go out Monday morning with our deposit check.

The only wait now is for ROFR. And frankly, even if Mickey usurps us there are SO many contracts out there that we'll find one again in minutes. The key to success is to not be in a hurry to go on vacation TOMORROW. We already have our trip for this year booked (on a relatives points. He's the one who turned us on to DVC.) so we don't need any points until next year and beyond.
