Resale Question

We have just completed a purchase of 300 points through the timeshare store. We already had 275 points under 3 contracts. All are for the same use year. When DVC gets them, will they automatically combine them all, or will we need to in effect transfer points from the resale to our original contract or vice versa. In other words, what disadvantages do we have with those 300 points since we bought them used? Thanks for any expertise you can provide...

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. Is your resale the same use year as your other contracts? If not, you will need to track those new points carefully. DVC doesn't combine them. Are all contracts at the same resort, or are they different resorts?

If the resale you purchased has the same use year of your existing contracts, it will be assigned the same contract number with a suffix of 001,002, etc. Otherwise, it is a new contract.

DVC will not transfer points from one use year to another, it would mess up the allocation.

Don't worry, tracking muiltiple use years is not a big deal; you have some fellow members who have developed some very good programs to help with this.

All of our contracts are the same use year (June). We have the following:

Boardwalk - 200 pts. / June - original purchase through DVC
Boardwalk - 50 pts / June - add on through DVC
OKW - 25 pts / June - add on through DVC
OKW - 300 pts / June - repurchase through Timeshare Store

My question is, when I call in the future to make reservations, will I still just be viewed as having 1 contract, or will I need to tell them I also have the other 300 pts and do something to move the points around? Thanks again...

I thought I read or was told that there would be limitations in what you can do.

You have two separate contracts, which you will have to keep track of by yourself. DVC does not do this for you. Contrary to what the poster above said, you will not be reassigned numbers on your contracts, that's basically for add-ons. New contracts, especially those bought resale, have their own numbers, and they retain that number.

DO NOT transfer points from one contract to another! That's a move, so the moved points cannot be banked, and if you had to cancel a ressie, your points would be lost if you couldn't use those points in this use year. I have 3 separate contracts with a Feb, March, and August use year. I have a notebook, and I put each contract on its own page. I put the use year at the top and also my member number for that contract(in case I lose my member card!) Everytime I call MS I write down what I did on the page that goes with that contract, and date it. For example, I made a ressie on 8-6-03 for a 1 bedroom (30 pts) for 4-1-04 using the March contract, so I write 270 pts-30=240 pts on the March page, as well as the other info. That is part of a ressie made with Feb use year, so I note it on the Feb page too. Also make a note whenever you bank or borrow pts, on the page where they were borrowed from, and where they were banked into. It's up to you to keep track of your points, although MS is good about helping.

By the way, your resale points are no different than the points you purchased from Disney, and are treated the same. Also, you had one contract with 2 add-ons, not 3 separate contracts. Now you have 2 contracts, and one is just as good as the other, from Disney's point of view.:sunny:

Actually if they are the same use year, DVC usually combines them, at least functionally. They don't always realize so you should tell them. Once they've set it, they will not change it. So you could end up in either scenario.

That was my experience, too. I bought first bough resale points at BWV w/ April use year, and then bought a significantly larger block at VB, also w/ April use year. DVC treated it as an add-on.

That may have been your case, but not mine. I have purchased three resales, of which two carry the same use year and the same contract number. The other is a separate contract.

In any event, always specify which points you want to use. If you have multiple contracts, you will have to give their numbers to MS as only the contract associated with your ID card (we have two, one for each contract) is visible to them while you are making your ressie.

This isn't a big deal. If you are making ressies with contract "X", use that member / contract number when calling MS.

MS has in the past been very accomodating in working with my multiple contracts to get my ressies assured. I have never done point transfers between contracts, and have always been able to, within the 7/11 month rule, use points from multiple contracts to ensure a ressie.

The take home point is that it's possible to get the same contract number and have reales treated as add ons. If you buy a resale and it's the same use year. Put in in the contract. Remind DVC at every turn, just to make sure. If they realize it's the same owner, they will do it automatically but sometimes they don't know. Also, it has to be the same exact registration, all owners names have to be the same, for them to treat it as an add on.

I am confused!!! My original contract is 230 pts. at OKW, June use year. I am closing on 270 pts. OKW, June use year in the next few days.

Will my 2 contracts now be treated as one??? It would be much easier for me if they were. Will Disney do it automatically or will I have to call and ask???

Thanks................

Only DVC can answer. If they realize it's the same owner AND it's listed EXACTLY the same way with all names, they will usually hook them up. If it's not listed the same EXACTLY or if they don't realize, they will not hook them together. Once it's done, it's done and they won't change it.

I should be closing next week. Check going in the mail on Monday morning. Can I ask the TSS to ask Disney to combine the contracts????? WEll, I am sure I can ask but would that be a way in which they may combine the contracts..

I am not sure if I used my and my DH's middle initials on the first contract.............?!?!?!?!?

Thanks...........

You can ask TSS and you can ask DVC yourself. My understanding is the registration needs to be identical but if this is the only difference they might not catch it or even care. Don't mention it after closing. Before closing and deed signing, have them change it to the way you want it, the same ad DVC is already.

Thanks Dean...........I wouldn't have even thought about this. I will ask TSS when I send them the check this morning!! I should be closed by the end of the week and making more ressies by next week!!!:bounce:
