Resale or DVC Purchase?

I want to purchase 100 add on points at AKL. DVC wants 112.00 per point less a 10.00 per point promotion plus 2008 points thrown in and no closing costs. I can purchase 100 points for my UY through resale at 84.00 per point which includes all of 2009 points, no mf until 2010 and closing costs of 397.00. I get confused figuring out which is the better deal. Can someone give me input.....PLEASE!

Your resale points are going to cost you $88/pt

Your DVC points are going to cost you $102/pt. IF you can use the 2008 points or if DVC will bank them for you until you can you can figure $8-10/pt for them. If you buy now you may owe 3 months dues so $1+, so that puts your new cost at about $94 or about $6 more than resale.

IF you are in a hurry then DVC otherwise resale

Wow! Thanks for helping me figure this out. I did know that going through DVC w/ the $10.00 a point promo, my cost would come down to 102.00 per point. I did, however, forget that I would have to pay 3 months MF.

So, overall, since we are not really in a hurry, we ultimately save by going resale just not as much as I originally thought.

IF you don't mind, when you buy into AK as listed throught resale, they do not specify AKL or AKV (Kidani). Does this matter?

Kidani Village and Jambo House (the DVC villas located within the Animal Kingdom Lodge building) are considered one DVC resort. If you have AKV as your home resort, you can book accommodations at either building at the 11-month window.

Here's how I would figure it:

Resale = $84/point - $5/point in 2009 MFs you don't have to pay + $4/point for closing costs = $83/point

Direct = $112/point - $10/point incentive - $10/point value of extra 2008 points = $92/point

Looks like the resale is a better deal even with having to pay the closing costs.

I'm also looking into adding points but I am not clear what the rules are as far as making reservations later on. I currently have SSR at September UY.

If I purchase resale add-ons for SSR and same UY, can I combine total points for future reservations? Is that what's referred to as "linking" reservations?

If I purchase points for another resort, can I combine SSR and new resort for a single vacation or would I have to do split stays?

Thanks!

If you purchase an add on and you keep the same resort and the same UY then you can combine the total points for a future reservation. So if your home resort is SSR with 160 points with a UY of September and you add on 50 points at SSR with the same UY then you will have 210 points to play with at 11 months out.

But if you add on at a different resort then you can only book at one of the resorts at 11 months out for the amount of points you have available for that resort. So if you own at SSR with 160 points and BWV with 50 points and you want to book at BWV at 11 months out, you can only book your BWV points of 50 points. Then at 7 months out you can add vacation days with your SSR points as long as the room is available.

Hope this makes sense and is not too confusing.
