What is the difference from buying through DVC or going through the The Timeshare store ??

Are we entitled all the same benefits ???

DVC treats you exactly the same no matter how you purchase your points. Direct from Disney or via resale, it makes no difference.

You pretty much have to go the resale route if you want a resort other than SSR - the others are sold out.

Best wishes -

Thanks For the Info.

Resale points will last until year 2042 and cost about $72 per pt.
SSR points will last until year 2054, but cost $85 per pt.

Plusses with dvc: you can call them up, give your cc number for a deposit, and be in the system the next day, able to make reservations. You can also easily have them finance it.

You can save money on a resale contract, but it can take up to 60 days to close and be able to make a reservation (and this is after you've found a contract you want, which could take some time--and no one else snags it first---which happened to us twice). Plus the whole ROFR thing. There is a price for convenience....

Here are a few more things to consider!

If you buy through Disney, you can finance through them. When purchasing resale, you must arrange your own financing or have cash!

With that being said, one of the main reasons we've purchased resale is having a full year's banked points on 2 of the contracts we've purchased -- that's like icing on the cake. But as you are probably aware, resale contracts don't necessarily have banked points and may even be stripped of current and future year points.

Lots to think about! Good luck with your decision...

It is really about what resort you want for your "home" resort (booking priority is what we are talking about here). There have been a couple of SSR contracts come up thru resale but since it is new you genereally have to buy from Disney to own there. All the other resorts are sold out, Disney occasionally picks up points during ROFR for these resorts but resales them for $84 per point. This is fine for small contract since there are no closing cost or other fees with direct buys from Disney but you are paying a premium for anything over a 100 point contract. The other main issues are cost and remaining life of the contract. I have never really found a distinct advantage of one over the other except for the issue of location. What I really believe, and the advice you are likely to get from this board, is to decide what resort you are most interested in and buy there.

Good Luck!!

Av8tor, Disney is now charging $89 per point on sold-out resorts!

In what is probably very rare circumstances, you can buy a sold out resort through DVC. We are in the process of doing this. We are 1st time buyers and are buying 150 BWV points direct for $89 point. The minus side of this, is that we are probably paying more than we would through resale. The plus side is that
1) we don't have to go through ROFR
2) We did not get a stripped contract
3) Current year dues prorated on calendar year(so we got all 2004 points, but will only pay dues from date of closing through 12/31)
4) If we need to finance, my understanding is that it's relatively painess.
5) I got my membership card shortly after putting down the deposit in late August. I have already booked our November stay and Feb stay (and November had to be waitlisted originally)

So the quick answer is that you are entitled to the same benefits. But the long answer 1) decide where you want to own, 2) decide how soon you want to own, and then take it from there. While DVC may initially tell you that sold out resorts aren't available, it never hurts to keep calling if you haven't lined anything else up.

In my opinion if you have the $ or can get it, go resale. You will get so much more for your money. Especially if you buy OKW.:teeth:

imho getting a resale not only saves money but you also get the month useyear that you want. I haveused the Timeshare store on 4 occassions and their service was great.
