Resale or by direct form Disney?

I have been looking it to DVC for my Dad. He is going to choose between the Marriott VC or DVC. I have been looking at resales and some of them seem much more reasonable than buying direct from WDW.

What are the pros and cons. I would like to know if you lose out on anything by buying a resale?

After reading the other posts please come back here and ask your unanswered questions. You are not alone, your question gets asked several times a week and you are talking about purchasing a long time commitment for thousands of dollars.

If he plans on just staying at Disney and buys at his favorite resort I would buy resale. They could stop you from using the points at other Disney resorts but they can't take your home resort.

The incentives have been different depending on where you buy from. Cruise and Doorway locations have reportedly been the best.

The big difference in resale and direct purchase right now (it could change) is that with a resale contract you can only use the points for DVC stays, as well as for RCI exchanges, Club Cordial and Club Intrawest.

By purchasing direct with Disney you are also eligible to use your DVC points for cruises on the DCL, and make reservations within the Concierge Collection, the Disney Collection or the Adventurer Collection in addition to DVC resorts.

Many here on the Disboards agree that the best value for use of your points is with a DVC resort reservation not an exchange. But you'll find many threads here about that debate as well.
