Resale first or through Disney first?

I am considering buying at both BLT through Disney and a BCV resale. Which should I do first?

I want 160 points at BLT and 150 points at BCV.

I was thinking about doing the resale first. As I understand it, if I buy resale first it may take 8 weeks to complete the transaction (it may take longer) but then I could do BLT as an add-on and get the same UY as my BCV contract.

Currently, Disney is offering the same price (for the point level I want) for both new contracts and add-ons, according to DVCnews.

Am I assessing the situation correctly, or have I missed an important factor?

Buy resale first. The next BLT deal will be for add-ons.

If you buy resale first you will automatically get the same use year when you purchase through Disney as Disney will only sell you the same use year as you have on your master contract(which will be your BCV-resale if that is purchased first).

If you go the other way around you may purchase a June Use Year for BLT and then find a perfect BCV-resale contract but it may have an October UY. Not a real big deal but it does make a little difference when banking and borowing (and expiring of points), it does deserve some consideration when making your decision.

That's exactly what I was thinking, that banking and borrowing points would be very convoluted if I had two different UYs. So resale first is the way to go.

Only members can get 150 BLT points right now (as an add-on), or wait for a 150 BLT contract to eventually show up resale.
New members must buy 160. So you'd have to buy BCV first...

(Although isn't there any additional 160 point BLT incentive, how much more is that extra 10 points?)

I was intending on buying 160 pts at BLT and 150 (or so) resale at BCV, giving me two smaller contracts and lots of points to play with.:cool1:

I agree with the poster above. Buy the resale first. You can go for the best deal...and your UY will be matched when you buy BLT. It took me several months to find the same UY, for my second contract, as my first one. I bought both resale.

I don't think there are any closing costs if you buy directly from Disney. It doesn't matter if it's a new or add-on contract.

There are closing costs on your initial purchase through Disney any add-on contracts there are no closing costs.

There will always be clsosing costs on re-sales contracts, However you may be able to shift those cost to the seller in your offer. It's worth a try.

I would assume if you purchase a resale first then an add-on throught Disney there would be no closing costs for your add-on. If you purchase Disney first then the resale(and are unsuccessful in having the seller pay for the closing costs) you would have closing costs on both.

This is not entirely correct on closing costs for initial purchase via Disney. For earlier DVC resorts there will not be closing costs; newer DVC resorts yes.

There are threads here about this.

Add-on contract(s) purchased through Disney do not have closing costs no matter how your initial contract purchase was made.
