Resale Experience @ HH

I'm looking for a resale at Hilton Head and have been told by the Timeshare Store that S.C. law requires a S.C. lawyer to review the paperwork, at added cost (~$275) and time (?? weeks).

Does anyone have experience buying a resale at HH? Did you have to do this versus having your own (non-S.C.) attorney review the paperwork?

I am presently awaiting my closing date at HH. However, we bought through DVC and signned a form where we rejected obtaining personal counsel. My wife is an attorney so we felt pretty confident as to the relative wisdom of that choice. I don't know whether the same choice would be available in a resale. Good luck!

That's not totally true. I can't speak to this situation directly but bought a Marriott and had it recorded without using a lawyer at ll. Good luck.

I bought a non-DVC, non-Marriott HH timeshare several years ago. I don't remember what I paid for closing costs, but I know that I didn't have to retain a SC lawyer. I would remember that. I transferred that HH timeshare to my brother this year, and one SC lawyer handled the whole thing for both of us since it was basically just transfering the deed. The cost was $135, including recording fees. Also, it shouldn't take a HH real estate attorney very long to review the paperwork. It's not rocket science and they see these documents all the time.

we were told that either SC state law or HH proper requirement, I believe it was a state law, that did require the proceedings to go through a lawyer's office. I was handled by a parilegal in a lawyer's office. We paid a tad less than $54 a point with all costs (closing, filing fees, transfers, maintenance fees on points that we acquired, etc.) so it was still much better than anything that Disney could offer at the time.
